The Shadow Over The Estate

A Cruel Trick In The Mansion Changed Everything Forever

The grand estate of the Sterling family stood high upon the rolling hills of Connecticut.

Its massive stone pillars and gleaming windows had seen generations of wealth and quiet secrets.

For Sarah Jenkins, working as a housemaid in the mansion was the only way to support her family.

She cleaned the endless hallway floors every morning before the sun rose above the trees.

She dusted the antique frames and polished the silver until it shone bright.

The work was hard and the hours were long, but Sarah never complained.

She cared deeply for the little boy who lived in the nursery upstairs.

His name was Leo, and he was barely six months old.

Leo was the heart of the home, brought into the world during a time of heavy sadness.

His biological mother had passed away shortly after he was born.

His father, Julian Sterling, was a powerful business leader who traveled constantly for work.

Julian tried his best to be a good father, but his vast inheritance kept him away.

He managed a large corporate estate that required his attention in distant cities.

To help care for the house, Julian had recently married a woman named Victoria.

Victoria was young, elegant, and always wore expensive diamond jewelry.

She walked through the halls like she owned every piece of art on the walls.

Yet, behind her bright smile, Victoria held a cold heart.

She did not care for little Leo at all.

She saw the baby as a rival for the family fortune and the vast estate.

If Leo inherited the business, Victoria would receive very little in the final will.

Sarah noticed how Victoria looked at the baby when no one else was watching.

The stepmother never held the child with warmth or kind words.

She treated the nursery like an inconvenient room in her grand new house.

Sarah kept a close eye on the baby whenever Julian was out of town.

She promised herself that no harm would come to the innocent child while she was working.

One chilly afternoon, the sky turned gray as a storm began to gather outside.

Julian had left early that morning for a critical meeting at his legal office.

The big house was quiet, save for the sound of wind against the glass panels.

Sarah was polishing the wooden banister near the bottom of the curved staircase.

Suddenly, she heard high heels clicking loudly on the upper floor marble.

She looked up and saw Victoria standing right near the open balcony railing.

Victoria was wearing a bright red silk gown that trailed behind her on the floor.

In her arms, she held little Leo wrapped loosely in a light blue blanket.

Sarah felt a wave of cold fear wash over her heart.

The balcony dropped two stories down to the solid stone foyer below.

Victoria leaned over the edge, looking down with a sharp and wicked grin.

Sarah dropped her cleaning cloth onto the polished floor.

She took a step forward, her heart pounding fast against her ribs.

She knew right away that something terrible was about to happen in that dark hallway.
