Daniel rushed toward his daughter and helped her sit up.
Daniel: Lily, are you okay?
Lily nodded, but she could barely speak.
Daniel: Don't be afraid. Tell me what happened.
Victoria stepped forward again.
Victoria: Daniel, she was the only person near my room.
Daniel looked at her carefully.
Daniel: Being nearby doesn't mean she took anything.
One of the guests suddenly mentioned seeing Lily carrying a small box earlier.
Daniel turned toward his daughter.
Daniel: Lily, what box were you carrying?
Lily finally remembered.
Lily: It wasn't Mom's jewelry box.
Daniel: Then what was it?
Lily pointed toward the hallway.
Lily: Grandma gave it to me.
Everyone looked toward the older woman standing quietly near the stairs.
She slowly stepped forward.
Grandmother: Lily was telling the truth.
Victoria's expression suddenly changed.
Grandmother: I gave her that box because I wanted her to keep something safe.
Daniel realized there was much more to the story.
