The Lies Before The Vows

The Maid Exposed My Stepmother On My Wedding Day

The morning sun shone brightly over the grand Dallas mansion on a warm Saturday.

David adjusted his dark navy tie in front of the tall bedroom mirror.

He was scheduled to marry Victoria in less than two hours downstairs.

A sudden sharp scream echoed from the high marble entrance hall below.

David stopped tying his bow and hurried toward the grand staircase.

He reached the upper balcony and looked down at the bright foyer floor.

His stepmother Victoria was standing near the entrance in an expensive pink gown.

She was shouting directly into the face of their quiet nanny, Emily.

Victoria: You thought you could get away with stealing from me!

Emily: I swear to you that I did not take anything!

Victoria: Shut your mouth and leave before I call the police!

Victoria reached out and gripped Emily by the arm with deep anger.

She attempted to force the poor woman toward the grand front doors.

Emily nearly lost her balance on the slick marble tiles beneath her feet.

David hurried down the wide winding stairs as fast as he could move.

David: Stop this right now, Victoria!

David stepped directly between the two women in the sunlit hallway.

He wrapped a gentle protective arm around Emily to keep her steady.

David: What on earth is happening in my home today?

Victoria: Your precious nanny stole my costly diamond ring this morning!

David: Emily has served this family faithfully for over five years.

Victoria: Well, she revealed her true greedy nature to everyone today!

Victoria pointed toward Emily's leather work bag sitting on the nearby table.

Victoria: I found my missing ring hidden deep inside her personal bag!

Emily: I never put that ring inside my bag, Mr. David!

Tears rolled down Emily's pale cheeks as she shook her head repeatedly.

Emily: I only came here early to help the boys put on their suits.

Victoria: Do not listen to her pathetic excuses for one single second!

Victoria: Throw her out onto the street where she belongs right now!

David looked closely at Victoria's tense face and noticed her pale skin.

She seemed unusually eager to kick Emily out before any guests arrived.

David knew that his stepmother was secretly struggling with massive personal debts.

She had asked him for a large cash loan just three days ago.

David: Nobody is leaving this house until I get the full truth.

Victoria: Are you really taking the word of a maid over mine?

David: I am taking the word of honesty over blind anger, Victoria.

Victoria crossed her arms tight and backed away toward the wall artwork.

Victoria: She is a thief, David, and you are being completely blind!

Boy: That is not true, Daddy!

A small shaky voice called out from the hallway near the staircase.

David turned his head quickly and saw his two young sons standing together.

They were both wearing matching dark wedding suits and fighting back tears.

David: Tommy, Ben, why were you hiding behind the stairs?

The older boy stepped forward and pointed his small finger at Victoria.

Boy: Miss Victoria made us stay hidden upstairs in the bedroom closet!

David: What are you talking about, son?

Boy: She put the ring into Miss Emily's bag herself while she wasn't looking!

The entire grand foyer fell completely silent as the boy's words echoed.

Victoria gasped out loud and pressed her back hard against the wall.

Victoria: They are lying to you, David, they are just confused!

Victoria: Miss Emily must have told them to say those awful words!

David stepped forward toward Victoria with fierce anger rising in his chest.

David: My sons do not lie about things like this, Victoria.

The heavy emotional weight of the moment pressed down upon the room.

David realized his entire upcoming wedding was built on a terrible deceit.
