Uncovering The Family Truth

The Rich Father Yelled At His Daughter Over A Dropped Cake

Sarah led little Lily upstairs into her quiet bedroom away from the bright party lights.

She wiped the soft tears from the little girl's cheeks with a gentle warm cloth.

Sarah: You are completely safe up here, my sweet little girl.

Lily: Is Daddy going to send me away because I ruined his party?

Sarah: Absolutely not, because you did nothing wrong on purpose today.

Sarah kissed Lily on her forehead before walking back down the stairs to the main floor.

David was frantically trying to scrape frosting off the expensive wood floor with a plastic spatula.

David: Why are you standing there instead of helping me fix this total disaster?

Sarah: Because I have been looking at our family bank statements for the past week.

David froze in place and slowly looked up at his wife with wide nervous eyes.

David: What do our private bank accounts have to do with this dropped cake?

Sarah: You said you bought this cake with your hard-earned corporate salary.

David: I did buy it with my own money from my recent business deals!

Sarah pulled a set of folded legal papers out from her heavy leather purse.

Sarah: You took money directly out of Lily's college trust fund to pay for this party!

David stood up quickly and tried to grab the documents straight out of her hands.

David: Give those papers back to me right now, Sarah, those are confidential!

Sarah: You have been lying about your company's real income for over six months!

The front doorbell rang loudly, echoing through the large quiet home.

David smoothed down his black tie and tried to regain his calm professional composure.

David: Put those away immediately, our wealthy guests have finally arrived.

Sarah walked right past him and opened the heavy double front doors herself.

A wealthy older gentleman named Mr. Vance stepped into the bright front hallway.

Mr. Vance: Good evening, David, we are excited to discuss the new joint venture tonight.

Mr. Vance suddenly stopped walking as his shoes stepped directly near the sticky white frosting.

Mr. Vance: Goodness, it looks like you had quite an accident in your front entryway!

David laughed nervously while trying to step over the mess on the floor.

David: My daughter was careless and dropped our primary party dessert on the floor.

Sarah: Do not blame our small child for your own total lack of control, David.

Mr. Vance looked back and forth between the husband and wife with deep surprise.

Mr. Vance: Is everything alright here tonight, Mrs. Miller?

Sarah: No, Mr. Vance, everything in this house is built on a total lie.

David grabbed Sarah by her arm and whispered angrily into her ear.

David: Stop talking right now or you will destroy my entire financial reputation!

Sarah: You destroyed your own reputation the moment you stole from your daughter!

Mr. Vance folded his hands together and watched the drama unfold with a stern expression.

Mr. Vance: I think you had better explain what is going on here, David.
