Standing Up To Fear

A Bitter Ex Broke In Before Justice Finally Arrived

Sarah stood her ground in the center of the sunlit living room.

Her hands shook slightly, but her voice was steady and filled with pure anger.

Julian shifted his weight, still clutching the wooden rod tightly in his right fist.

Julian: Step aside, Sarah, this is between me and the man who took my life.

Sarah: Nobody took anything from you, Julian!

Sarah: You lost your job and your trust because of your own greed!

Julian took a step forward, trying to intimidate Sarah with his tall frame.

Sarah did not back away an inch from the man who had terrified her past.

She raised her hand and delivered a sharp slap straight across Julian's cheek.

The loud crack echoed through the high ceilings of the bright living room.

Julian stumbled back toward the open entryway, holding his red cheek in shock.

He had never expected Sarah to fight back with such sudden physical force.

Sarah: Get out of my house before I destroy you!

Julian: You will regret touching me, Sarah!

Sarah: The only regret I have is ever letting you into my life!

Mark managed to push himself up from the sofa, holding his bruised shoulder tightly.

He reached out to Sarah, trying to make sure she was not hurt.

Mark: Sarah, be careful, he is completely out of his mind!

Sarah: Stay down, Mark, I am handling this right now.

Sarah grabbed Julian by his heavy jacket and pushed him toward the front door.

Julian lost his footing on the polished hardwood floor and stumbled backward onto the porch.

The bright daylight flooded the doorway as the front door swung wide open.

Julian tried to raise the wooden rod again, but two uniforms suddenly blocked his view.

Two local police officers were already standing on the front porch with drawn flashlights.

Sarah had called the police earlier when she noticed a suspicious car parked outside.

Officer Davis: Drop the weapon right now!

Julian dropped the wooden rod onto the welcome mat as his face turned pale.

The officers grabbed his arms instantly and forced them behind his back.

The metallic click of handcuffs echoed clearly across the quiet neighborhood street.

Officer Davis: Julian Vance, you are under arrest for felony break-in and assault!

Julian: You don't understand, they stole my life from me!

Officer Davis: Save it for the judge, buddy.

Sarah watched as the officers led Julian down the paved walkway toward the police cruiser.

She slammed the front door shut and locked it securely from the inside.

The immediate danger was finally over, but her body was still trembling from adrenaline.
