Julian Vance stood in the sunlit hallway of his family mansion.
He held his young daughter Lily tightly in his arms.
The little girl was trembling violently against his chest.
Her small hand pointed down toward the dark basement staircase.
Julian felt his heart racing inside his chest.
He looked at the heavy wooden door at the bottom of the stairs.
A thick iron chain was wrapped tightly around the brass door handle.
A heavy brass padlock locked the chain in place.
Julian had never seen that lock on the basement door before today.
He looked at his younger brother Marcus, who stood nearby.
Marcus wore an expensive designer suit and looked unusually calm.
His eyes avoided Julian's gaze as he checked his luxury wristwatch.
Julian felt a cold chill run down his spine.
Julian: Marcus, why is there a heavy chain on that door?
Marcus: It's nothing you need to worry about, Julian.
Lily: He's lying, Daddy! Mommy is trapped in the dark!
Julian shifted Lily to his left hip and stepped forward.
His face flushed red with intense anger.
He looked directly into his brother's eyes.
Julian: Did you lock Eleanor down there?
Marcus: She was causing a scene about the inheritance money.
Julian: You lying snake!
Julian grabbed Marcus by his jacket collar with both hands.
Marcus tried to push Julian away, but Julian held his ground.
The two brothers stared at each other in intense hatred.
Julian's mind raced back to the events of the morning.
Eleanor had mentioned finding strange financial documents in Marcus's office.
She had suspected Marcus of stealing money from the family business.
Julian had dismissed her concerns as a simple misunderstanding.
Now, seeing his child crying, he realized his mistake.
Marcus: You don't understand the pressure I was under!
Julian: You locked my wife in a cold cellar for money!
Marcus: She was going to call our divorce lawyers and destroy us!
Julian shoved Marcus back against the hallway wall.
Marcus stumbled, knocking over a crystal vase on a nearby table.
The glass shattered across the polished marble floor.
Lily buried her face into her father's shoulder, weeping softly.
Julian reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone.
He quickly dialed the private security team assigned to the estate.
Julian: Get the tactical officers to the main hall immediately!
Marcus: Don't do this, Julian. Think about the company reputation!
Julian: I only care about my wife and child.
Two uniformed security officers rushed into the hallway carrying equipment.
The lead officer carried a set of heavy steel bolt cutters.
Julian pointed his finger toward the chained basement door.
Julian: Cut that heavy chain right now!
The officer nodded and hurried down the stairs toward the lock.
