Mrs. Vance’s face turned pale white as Officer Vance pulled out a pair of steel handcuffs. The confidence she had carried for years inside that classroom evaporated in a second.
Mrs. Vance: What?! You’re arresting ME?! I’ve been teaching here for fifteen years! You can’t do this!
Officer Vance: You are under arrest for felony child abuse and injury to a child. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.
Principal Harrison: Officers, wait! Is there any way we can handle this administratively? The reputation of this academy—
Mark: Your academy is finished, Harrison! You knew she was doing this, didn't you? How many other kids has she hit while you looked the other way?!
Officer Davis: Mr. Harrison, if you attempt to interfere with an arrest, I will detain you for obstruction. Step back immediately.
The handcuffs clicked loudly around Mrs. Vance's wrists. She began to cry out in protest, but Officer Vance firmly guided her out of the classroom and down the hallway in front of other teachers and staff members who had gathered in the corridor.
Mrs. Vance: This is ridiculous! I am an educator! You’re ruining my career!
Mark: You ruined your own career the moment you laid hands on my son!
Mark picked Leo up into his arms, holding him close as the little boy buried his face into his father's neck. Principal Harrison stood in the middle of the room, looking visibly panicked as he realized the legal catastrophe descending upon his institution.
Principal Harrison: Mr. Miller... please, let’s talk in my office. We can offer a full refund of your tuition, and we will terminate her contract immediately—
Mark: Save your money, Harrison. My legal team will be contacting you and the board of directors by the end of the business day. You're going to face a massive lawsuit, and I'm personally making sure this school’s license is revoked.
Principal Harrison: Mr. Miller, a lawsuit could ruin this entire facility!
Mark: Then it deserves to be ruined. You failed to protect the children placed in your care.
Mark turned and walked out of the classroom, holding his son tightly against his chest. As they crossed the threshold into the bright daylight of the parking lot, Leo looked up at his father with wide, tear-filled eyes.
Leo: Daddy... are we going home now?
Mark: Yeah, buddy. We’re going home. You’re completely safe now, and nobody is ever going to hurt you again.
