Principal Harrison: Marcus, please calm down! Let's step into my office and talk about this like rational adults. You're terrifying the other students!
Marcus: I am not going anywhere! Look at my son's hand, Harrison! Look at it!
Principal Harrison looked down at four-year-old Leo. The toddler was sobbing silently, his tiny fingers trembling as he held up his right palm. A thick, dark red welt was clearly rising across his soft skin.
Principal Harrison: Good Lord... Leo, sweetie, what happened?
Mrs. Vance: He fell during playtime, Arthur! He tripped over the wooden blocks and hurt himself! Mr. Davis stormed in here completely unhinged and started accusing me of hitting him!
Marcus: You absolute liar! You pathetic, sickening liar!
Mrs. Vance: Arthur, he is threatening me! He accused me of striking a child! I demand you have him removed from the premises immediately!
Principal Harrison: Marcus, if Mrs. Vance says it was an accident during playtime—
Marcus: Shut up, Harrison! Just shut your mouth and look at my phone!
Marcus whipped out his smartphone, unlocked the screen, and pulled up the saved cloud clip from three minutes earlier. He shoved the screen directly into Principal Harrison's face.
Marcus: Watch it. Watch every single second of it.
Principal Harrison stared at the screen. The video played clearly, complete with high-fidelity audio. On the video, Mrs. Vance could be seen yelling at Leo, lifting the wooden ruler high into the air, and bringing it down with full force on the boy's hand. The sharp crack sound played loudly through the phone's speakers.
Principal Harrison's jaw dropped. The color completely drained from his face as he stared at the screen, then looked up at Mrs. Vance in total disbelief.
Principal Harrison: Evelyn... is this... is this real?
Mrs. Vance: Arthur, listen to me—that video is out of context! He was being defiant! He was challenging my authority in front of the entire class!
Marcus: HE IS FOUR YEARS OLD!
Mrs. Vance: I have maintained order in this school for over a decade! A firm hand is necessary for proper development!
Principal Harrison: Evelyn, keep quiet! Do not say another word!
Outside the classroom, the sharp wail of police sirens echoed through the open windows, growing louder and closer by the second. Red and blue lights flashed against the classroom glass.
Mrs. Vance: You... you called the police?
Marcus: You thought you were safe behind these expensive tuition fees and private doors, didn't you? You thought parents were too busy working to notice what you were doing to their kids.
Mrs. Vance: Arthur, you can't let them arrest me! Think about the reputation of the school! Think about the board of trustees! If this gets out, parents will pull their children out instantly!
Principal Harrison: Evelyn, you just struck a child on camera! The school's reputation is the least of my concerns right now!
Two uniformed police officers walked briskly into the classroom, followed closely by Detective Reynolds. The heavy atmosphere in the room shifted instantly as the officers took in the scene.
Detective Reynolds: Marcus! Is everyone okay in here?
Marcus: Reynolds, that's her. She's the one who hit my son.
Officer Miller: Ma'am, step away from the desk and put your hands behind your back.
Mrs. Vance: Get your hands off me! Do you know who I am?! My husband is on the city council!
Officer Miller: I don't care if your husband is the mayor, ma'am. Put your hands behind your back right now!
