Mark took a deep breath, holding his son tightly in his arms.
He walked inside the air-conditioned house and set Leo safely down.
Rachel followed close behind, locking the back glass door immediately.
Outside, Evelyn stood alone on the patio, looking furious and defeated.
"We need to call our family lawyer right now," Rachel urged.
Mark nodded slowly, pulling his smartphone from his dark blue pocket.
He dialed his attorney, Arthur Vance, who handled his father's estate.
"Arthur, my mother just served us an eviction paper," Mark said.
There was a long, heavy silence on the other end of the line.
"Mark, come to my city office immediately," Arthur replied firmly.
An hour later, Mark and Rachel sat inside the high-rise office downtown.
Little Leo slept peacefully in his portable stroller right beside them.
Arthur laid out several thick legal documents across his mahogany desk.
"Your late father created a solid trust fund," Arthur explained carefully.
"Does my mother actually own our family home?" Mark asked bluntly.
Arthur shook his head, pointing a pen at a key paragraph.
"No, Mark. The house was left entirely to you upon turning thirty."
Rachel let out a long breath she had been holding for hours.
"Then why did she claim she could evict us today?"
"Evelyn has been illegally managing the estate accounts," Arthur revealed softly.
Mark felt a sharp sting of anger inside his broad chest.
"She spent the inheritance money meant for Leo's future fund?"
"She transferred over two hundred thousand dollars last month," Arthur confirmed.
Rachel put a gentle hand on Mark's trembling shoulder.
"She staged that scene in the yard to provoke you," Rachel said.
"She wanted you to break the peace so she could file charges."
If Mark got arrested, Evelyn could claim temporary custody of Leo.
With custody, she could legally access the child's rich trust fund.
Mark clenched his fists, realizing the terrible depth of her plot.
"She put our child in danger just for money," Mark whispered.
"We have full legal standing to remove her," Arthur declared firmly.
"I want a complete restraining order against her today," Rachel insisted.
Arthur began printing out emergency protection documents right away.
"We will file these with the district judge before court closes."
Mark looked over at his sleeping son with deep love and emotion.
He vowed to protect his family from any further harm or greed.
"She will never step foot on our property again," Mark declared.
They signed the official petition papers with quick, determined strokes.
Rachel felt a sense of relief finally entering her weary heart.
But deep down, she knew Evelyn would not give up easily.
The phone on Arthur's desk began to ring with high urgency.
Arthur answered it, his calm expression turning instantly serious.
"Mark, your mother is currently at the local police precinct."
Rachel stood up instantly, her heart beating fast once again.
"What is she doing at the police station right now?"
"She is trying to file assault charges against Rachel," Arthur said.
Mark looked at Rachel with pure protection in his eyes.
"We are going down there with our security footage immediately."
They grabbed Leo's stroller and hurried out toward the elevator.
The real fight for their family was just beginning right now.
