Clara stood in the center of the massive Dallas living room while the sun streamed through the huge glass windows.
The white marble floor reflected the bright afternoon light across the whole room.
Brenda walked toward her with a cold sneer on her bitter face.
She had spent months trying to drive Clara away from the family business and the trust fund.
Clara adjusted her sweater and tried to keep her voice calm.
Brenda: You think you can just walk in here and take what belongs to my son?
Clara: I am not taking anything that does not belong to me, Brenda.
Brenda took another step closer and narrowed her narrow eyes.
Brenda: You do not belong in this mansion or in this family.
Clara: David asked me to wait for him right here.
Brenda: Get out of my family's sight!
Brenda reached out and tried to shove Clara back toward the entrance.
Clara stumbled slightly on the polished floor but kept her balance.
She looked Brenda straight in the eye without showing any fear.
Clara: I am not going anywhere until David arrives.
Brenda: You have five seconds to turn around and leave!
Brenda pointed a manicured finger directly at the grand front doors.
Clara stood her ground despite the intense pressure in the room.
She knew that Brenda had been forging financial documents for over a year.
The legal evidence was sitting safely inside David's leather briefcase.
Brenda: You are a pathetic fortune hunter and nothing more!
Clara: The truth about the inheritance is coming out today, Brenda.
Brenda's face turned red with instant panic and rage.
She lunged forward to grab Clara's arm to drag her outside.
Clara pulled her arm back quickly and dodged the aggressive gesture.
Clara: Do not touch me again!
Brenda raised her voice until it filled the entire ground floor.
Brenda: This is my house and I make the rules here!
Clara took a step back to maintain a safe distance from the angry woman.
The sound of heavy leather shoes echoed from the main hallway.
David walked into the room with his chest breathing heavily.
He caught sight of Brenda towering over Clara in the center of the room.
His eyes burned with immediate protective anger as he closed the distance.
David: Get away from her right now, Brenda!
Brenda turned around in surprise as David stepped between them.
Brenda: David, thank goodness you are here to throw this intruder out!
David placed his broad hands gently on Clara's trembling shoulders.
David: Are you okay?! She is my lawful wife!
Brenda froze completely as the words hit the air like a thunderclap.
Brenda: What ridiculous lie are you telling me right now?
David: We were married in secret three months ago in Austin.
Clara looked up into David's warm eyes and felt her fear melt away.
David pulled the marriage certificate straight out of his jacket pocket.
He held the official paper directly in front of Brenda's face.
Brenda gasped aloud as she recognized the official state seal on the top.
