Sarah adjusted the soft blanket around her tiny newborn baby as she stood inside the bright foyer.
The sunlight reflected brightly off the polished white marble floor of the grand Dallas mansion.
She had arrived early that morning hoping to speak with her mother-in-law, Evelyn Vance.
Evelyn was a harsh woman who controlled the family estate with absolute control and icy arrogance.
She walked slowly down the curved staircase while wearing an expensive designer dress and fine diamonds.
Evelyn: Why are you standing in my hallway like a common beggar?
Sarah: I only came to talk about David's legal papers.
Evelyn: You do not belong in this family!
Sarah stepped back defensively as Evelyn pointed a sharp manicured finger directly at her face.
Sarah: Please, stop!
Evelyn: My son made a terrible mistake when he brought you into this estate!
Evelyn stepped closer with eyes filled with deep cold hatred.
Sarah: David asked me to wait for him right here in the living room.
Evelyn: You have no right to touch anything in this grand house!
Sarah felt her heart pounding rapidly against her chest as the harsh words continued.
She wrapped her arms securely around her little girl to protect her from the cruel noise.
Sarah: I am his wife, Evelyn, whether you accept it or not.
Evelyn: You are nothing but an opportunistic nobody from a tiny town!
Evelyn grabbed Sarah by the shoulder and shoved her violently back toward the heavy front entry doors.
Sarah lost her footing completely on the slick marble tiles.
She gasped loudly as she fell hard onto the polished surface.
She shielded her small baby carefully with her own body to cushion the sudden impact.
Evelyn: Leave before I have the security guards drag you out to the street!
Sarah wiped a bitter tear from her cheek as she tried to stand up slowly.
The physical pain was sharp, but the deep humiliation hurt far worse.
She looked up to see Evelyn looking down at her with complete contempt.
Sarah: How can you be so cruel to your own grandchild?
Evelyn: That child is no blood relation of mine!
Heavy footsteps suddenly echoed from the top of the grand spiral staircase.
David rushed down the steps three at a time with a heavy leather folder clutched firmly in his hand.
His face was red with intense fury after hearing the loud voices downstairs.
