Julian: Where did you get this locket, son?
Leo: My mom gave it to me before the big crash five years ago.
Julian: Your mother gave this to you?
Leo: Yes. She said if I ever got lost, I had to find my dad and show him the bird on the front.
Julian ran his thumb across the worn metal, his breath catching in his throat.
Julian: This is my family crest... Claire's locket.
Vanessa: Julian, drop that dirty piece of trash! He's a con artist!
Julian: My grandfather custom-made this crest in nineteen fifty-two, Vanessa.
Vanessa: Anyone could buy a fake copy at a flea market downtown!
Julian: There are only two in the entire world. One is in my vault. The other was supposed to be buried with Claire.
Leo: It wasn't buried, Dad! Mom hung it around my neck right before the car rolled down into the trees!
Vanessa: This is completely insane! He was hired by your rivals to ruin our merger!
Julian ignored her, pressing the tiny side latch with his fingernail.
The golden casing popped open, revealing a faded photograph of Claire holding an infant wrapped in blue.
Beneath the photo was a scratched inscription: For our brave Leo, forever your Claire.
Julian: Claire's private handwriting... only she and I knew about this.
Vanessa: Anyone can forge handwriting, Julian! Stand up and finish our vows!
Julian: Shut up, Vanessa. Just shut your mouth.
Leo: She knows my name, Dad. She came to the boarding house attic two weeks ago.
Gasps rippled across the front rows as prominent Dallas business leaders leaned forward.
Vanessa: That is a disgusting lie! I've never set foot in a slum in my life!
Leo: You had that big diamond on your thumb and smelled like lavender flowers! You gave Mr. Henderson a fat yellow envelope!
Julian: Thomas Henderson? The private investigator I paid millions to search for my family?
Leo: Yes! He said if I made any noise, he would lock me in the storm cellar without water!
Julian: Henderson swore to me under oath that he identified my son's dental remains in that burnt sedan.
Vanessa: Because he did! The coroner signed the death certificate five years ago!
Leo: Look behind my left ear, Dad!
Julian gently turned the boy's head, brushing back his dusty brown hair.
Right at the hairline was a distinct, red birthmark shaped like a tiny maple leaf.
Julian: My mother had this exact same mark... my God, it's really you.
Vanessa: It's a coincidence! A sick, twisted setup!
Julian stood up slowly, his tall frame trembling with absolute, icy fury.
Julian: You stole my child!
With sudden, explosive force, Julian delivered a hard counter-slap across Vanessa's face.
The bride shrieked as the blow knocked her down onto the white marble, her tiara shattering on the stones.
Vanessa scrambled backward in pure panic, holding both hands up defensively with wide, terrified eyes.
Vanessa: Wait, please! Let me explain!
Julian: There is nothing to explain!
Julian reached down, grabbed her bare arm with an iron grip, and began dragging her across the marble floor toward the grand exit doors.
Julian: You are going straight to federal prison!
