The Mirror Of Truth

A Shallow Woman Rejects True Love For Wealth

As Vanessa hurried through the crowded city square toward the park, an odd, uncomfortable burning sensation began to itch her face.

She paused outside a glass store display, catching sight of her reflection in the bright natural daylight hitting the tall building.

An extreme wave of horror washed over her as she leaned closer to inspect her face in the clear glass mirror.

Her skin appeared strangely haggard and distressed, covered in realistic dark, web-like vein textures crawling across her cheeks and forehead.

A hideous black spider was slowly crawling directly across her forehead, marking her appearance with an unmistakable symbol of decaying beauty.

She screamed in terror, slapping at her face, but the spider and the dark webbed veins were embedded deep within her skin.

Her vanity and pride, which she had valued above all else in her youth, were rotting away before her very eyes.

Vanessa: My face! What is happening to my face? My beauty... it’s completely disappearing into darkness!

She backed away from the glass in total panic, her heart pounding as passersby stared at her with expressions of horror.

Disregarding her appearance, she ran desperately toward the crowded park entrance, determined to reach Daniel before he left the stage.

She pushed through the crowd of reporters and local citizens just as Daniel stepped down from the podium surrounded by security guards.

He looked handsomer and more confident than ever, wearing an elegant tailored suit that exuded power, wealth, and deep inner peace.

Vanessa: Daniel! Daniel, please stop! It’s me, Vanessa!

Daniel paused and turned toward her voice, his calm brown eyes landing on her distorted, vein-covered face and trembling hands.

A quiet hush fell over the surrounding crowd as Vanessa dropped her hands, tears flowing freely down her webbed, ruined cheeks.

Daniel: Vanessa? Is that really you?

Vanessa: Yes, Daniel! I made a terrible mistake years ago! I was blind, but I see clearly now!

Daniel: You didn't make a mistake, Vanessa. You simply showed me who you truly were deep down inside your soul.

Vanessa: Please, Daniel! You promised you would love and care for me forever! I have nothing left in this world!

Daniel: I offered you a lifetime of true devotion when I had nothing, and you mocked me for being poor.

A gentle, kind-looking woman stepped up beside Daniel, wrapping her arm lovingly through his as he looked down at her warmly.

Daniel: This is my wife, Sarah. She loved me for who I was when I didn't have a single dollar to my name.

Vanessa felt as though a knife had been plunged directly into her heart as she watched Daniel smile at his loving wife.
