Carter adjusted his dark tuxedo jacket and stepped directly in front of the father and child.
He sneered at Mark with a condescending grin that showed total lack of empathy.
Carter: Hey, what do you think you are doing pointing fingers at my sister?
Mark: Step aside right now, Carter, I am taking my child away from here.
Carter: You aren't going anywhere until you apologize for your tone with Victoria!
Carter put a hand on Mark's shoulder to physically block him from walking past the table.
Mark did not hesitate for a single second to protect his frightened little child.
He shifted Lily safely into his left arm and leaned his head back slightly.
With a powerful open palm, Mark struck Carter across the face with tremendous force.
The loud slap cracked through the room like a sudden thunderbolt on a clear day.
Carter spun around helplessly from the heavy impact and stumbled backward onto a decorated table.
The wooden table collapsed under his weight, sending glass vases and flower arrangements crashing down.
Water and purple petals scattered everywhere across the gleaming white marble floor below them.
Victoria screamed out in utter shock as her brother lay groaning among the broken glass.
Victoria: Are you completely insane, Mark? You could have killed him!
Mark: Touch me or my daughter again and see what happens next.
The other restaurant guests began clapping quietly as Mark pulled his jacket around little Lily.
Lily held onto Mark's shirt collar tightly while her small sobs finally began to slow down.
Mark turned his back on the chaotic mess and walked proudly down the grand center aisle.
He pushed through the heavy glass doors of the luxury hotel and stepped outside.
The warm summer breeze brushed against his face as he walked toward his parked vehicle.
He placed Lily gently into her safe car seat and buckled the secure straps tightly.
Mark: We are never going back to that house again, my little angel.
He pulled out his smartphone and dialed his long-time family lawyer while standing outside.
Mark: Arthur, I need you to file emergency divorce papers and a restraining order immediately.
Arthur: I am on it, Mark, bring me whatever evidence you have right away.
Mark looked back at the hotel front doors with absolute certainty in his racing heart.
He knew the battle was far from over, but he was ready to protect his child.
