Flight Through the Forest

A Stranger Stranded on a Forest Road Changed Everything

The first rays of warm golden sunlight began to break over the tall horizon, casting long orange shadows across the forest path.

Caleb and Clara burst through the back door of the log home, running hand-in-hand down the narrow dirt trail behind the woods.

The crisp morning air filled their lungs as dry autumn leaves crunched loudly beneath their rapid footsteps on the steep hiking trail.

Clara: Where are we going? My father has a fast truck parked in the front driveway near the main road access!

Caleb: I parked my sedan down near the old logging creek on purpose to trick them if they tried to follow us!

Clara: You lied about your car breaking down on the forest road yesterday afternoon?

Caleb: I had to get inside that house safely without David turning me away at the front gate porch entrance Clara!

Behind them in the distance, a loud vehicle horn echoed through the quiet valley trees as David started up his heavy pickup.

Caleb: Faster, Clara! We have to reach the state highway border before he cuts off the main paved access road bridge crossing!

They sprinted past towering oak trees, their shadows stretching out long across the red and golden leaves covering the forest earth floor.

Clara looked back for a brief second, seeing the distant outline of the suburban house fading away behind the dense fall tree line.

Her heart pounded wildly in her chest, but for the very first time in her whole life, she felt truly awake and completely free.

Clara: I have all the original court trust files right here inside my jacket pocket safe and sound!

Caleb: Good! My probate lawyer in the city is already waiting for our call at nine o'clock sharply this morning brother!

They reached a hidden dirt clearing near the rushing mountain stream where a second dark rental car sat waiting under low branches.

Caleb pulled out a key fob, unlocking the doors with a swift double beep sound that filled the peaceful morning forest clearing.

Caleb: Get inside right now! Put your seatbelt on fast, Clara!

She jumped into the passenger seat, slamming the car door shut just as David's red pickup truck rounded the top ridge curve above.

David slammed on his brakes, stepping out into the gravel dust with a look of total defeat written across his tired face.

David: Clara! Please, just come back and let us talk this through like a real family unit together!

Clara rolled down her side window just an inch, looking out at the man who had raised her on a foundation of total lies.

Clara: Goodbye, David. You will be hearing directly from our family law attorney before the end of this business week.

Caleb slammed his foot down on the gas pedal, spinning the tires across the gravel as they sped away down the open road.
