The Truth Prevails

A Strangled Child Stops Her Father From Marrying A Criminal

Mark took off his heavy tuxedo jacket and wrapped it around Lucy's shoulders.

The little girl held his hand tightly as they walked out into the rain.

He opened the door of his car and helped her sit in the warm passenger seat.

The engine roared to life as he drove quickly toward Saint Jude Hospital.

Lucy looked out the window at the passing city lights in quiet relief.

Lucy: Are you really my dad?

Mark: Yes, sweetie, I am your dad.

Mark: I never knew about you, but I promise I will never leave again.

Tears welled up in Mark's eyes as he pressed hard on the gas pedal.

Ten minutes later, he was running through the bright white hospital corridors.

He held Lucy's tiny warm hand as they rounded the corner to room four twelve.

A doctor was standing outside the glass door checking a chart on his clipboard.

Mark ran up to the physician with a desperate look in his eyes.

Mark: How is Olivia Hale?

Mark: I am her family.

The doctor looked at Mark with a soft and sympathetic expression.

Doctor: She is very weak, but her vitals are finally stabilizing now.

Doctor: She kept asking for her daughter all evening.

Lucy pushed the heavy door open and walked softly into the dim room.

A thin woman with pale skin lay resting quietly on the narrow hospital bed.

Her dark hair was spread across the white pillow just like Mark remembered.

Olivia opened her eyes slowly and gasped when she saw Mark standing there.

Olivia: Mark?

Olivia: How did you find me?

Mark walked over to the bed and fell to his knees beside her.

He took her thin cold hand in both of his warm palms.

Mark: Lucy came to the chapel and brought the checks, Olivia.

Mark: She saved us both today.

Olivia looked at her brave little girl with tears running down her cheeks.

She explained how Victoria had threatened to destroy Mark's career nine years ago.

Victoria had forced her to take the hush money and stay away forever.

Olivia had never spent a single dollar of that dirty bank money.

She had kept every payment locked inside a iron box for justice.

Two hours later, two city detectives arrived at the hospital room door.

They confirmed that Victoria Hale was currently in custody at the station.

The legal paper trail proved charges of extortion, fraud, and systematic harassment.

Mark sat beside Olivia's bed holding Lucy in his lap until morning light came.

The dark storm outside had finally passed and the sun shone brightly.

He knew the road to healing would be long for their small family.

Yet for the first time in nine years, Mark felt true hope in his heart.

He squeezed Olivia's hand and promised to protect them for the rest of his life.
