Leo: Is that Uncle Richard’s driver?!
Eleanor: Don't look at him! Get in the back seat and lie down!
Eleanor shoved Leo into the rear interior of her luxury sedan and slammed the door heavy and fast[span_39](start_span)[span_39](end_span). She lunged into the driver’s seat, starting the engine with a sharp roar[span_40](start_span)[span_40](end_span). The tires squealed against the pavement as she pulled sharply out of the parking lane[span_41](start_span)[span_41](end_span). Behind them, the black SUV pulled out immediately, following close on their bumper[span_42](start_span)[span_42](end_span)[span_43](start_span)[span_43](end_span).
Leo: He’s following us! Mom, he’s coming right behind us!
Eleanor: Stay down, Leo! Keep your head below the window!
Leo: Why is he trying to hurt us?
Eleanor: Because if you are alive, he loses every penny of your father’s inheritance!
Leo: I don't want the money! Tell him he can have it!
Eleanor: It’s not just about money anymore, Leo. It’s about what he did to our family.
Eleanor took a hard left turn down a narrow alleyway, scraping the side mirror against a brick wall[span_44](start_span)[span_44](end_span)[span_45](start_span)[span_45](end_span). The sound of tearing metal echoed through the small car, making Leo scream in panic[span_46](start_span)[span_46](end_span). Eleanor pressed hard on the gas pedal, bursting out onto a main avenue jammed with afternoon traffic[span_47](start_span)[span_47](end_span).
Eleanor: Arthur! Are you still on the phone?!
Lawyer: Yes! I'm tracking your GPS right now! Where are you going?
Eleanor: Richard’s men are tailing us! They know I found Leo!
Lawyer: Head straight for the city precinct! Do not go home!
Eleanor: I can’t reach the precinct, the highway is blocked with construction!
Lawyer: Then go to my law firm’s underground garage! I’ll have security lock the gates!
Leo: Mom, the black car is bumping us!
A heavy metallic crunch rattled the entire car as the black SUV struck their rear bumper from behind[span_48](start_span)[span_48](end_span)[span_49](start_span)[span_49](end_span). Leo buried his head in his arms, sobbing softly into the leather seat[span_50](start_span)[span_50](end_span)[span_51](start_span)[span_51](end_span). Eleanor kept her hands glued to the steering wheel, her knuckle turning white under the pressure[span_52](start_span)[span_52](end_span)[span_53](start_span)[span_53](end_span).
Eleanor: Hold on tight, baby!
Leo: I’m scared!
Eleanor: I lost you once, Leo! I swear on my life I will never let anyone take you again!
She slammed on the brakes suddenly as they approached a yellow traffic light[span_54](start_span)[span_54](end_span). The massive SUV behind them swerved wildly to avoid crashing into her back end, clipping a fire hydrant instead[span_55](start_span)[span_55](end_span). Water burst into the air in a massive white geyser, blinding the driver behind them[span_56](start_span)[span_56](end_span). Eleanor took advantage of the chaos, pressing the gas and speeding through the intersection toward the legal district[span_57](start_span)[span_57](end_span)[span_58](start_span)[span_58](end_span).
Leo: We lost them... Mom, we lost them!
Eleanor: We aren't safe yet. Not until Richard is behind bars.
Leo: What is he going to do when he finds out we’re together?
Eleanor: He’s going to try to destroy the evidence. But he doesn't know I have the missing piece.
Leo: What missing piece?
Eleanor reached down and touched the small, torn photograph Leo was still clutching in his small hand[span_59](start_span)[span_59](end_span).
