Mark pulled out his smartphone with a hand that was still shaking with rage.
Mark: I am calling 911 right now, and then I am calling my lawyer.
Eleanor gasped loudly and reached out to grab his wrist.
Eleanor: If the police get involved, the press will destroy our entire family business!
Mark pulled his arm away from her touch with total disgust.
Mark: You cared more about money than a human life, Eleanor.
Eleanor: That trust fund belongs to the family that built this company!
Downstairs, Sarah slowly stood up from the couch to listen closer.
She held her stomach tightly as she walked toward the bottom of the stairs.
Sarah: It was never about me, Mark... it was about the inheritance lawyer's letter.
Mark looked down over the banister at his pale wife.
Mark: What letter are you talking about, Sarah?
Sarah: A certified letter came in the mail yesterday from your late father's estate attorney.
Eleanor's sharp face went completely white as she stared at Sarah.
Eleanor: Keep your mouth shut, Sarah!
Mark: Be quiet, Eleanor! Sarah, tell me what was in that letter.
Sarah took a small paper from her cardigan pocket and held it up.
Sarah: Your father changed his final will three weeks before he passed away last year.
Mark: He told me he was leaving everything in a joint trust for all of us.
Sarah: That is what Eleanor wanted everyone in the town to believe.
Sarah unfolded the document with careful hands as Mark listened intently.
Sarah: The updated will states that if Eleanor ever attempted to hide assets, she loses everything.
Mark: She hid the offshore accounts that my dad set up for the business.
Eleanor: That money was meant for my retirement security!
Mark: You stole from the estate... and you lied to my face for a year!
Eleanor's confident composure completely shattered into pieces right in front of them.
She realized that her carefully constructed web of lies was falling apart.
Eleanor: Your father was not in his right mind when he signed those papers!
Mark: He was sharper than anyone, and he knew exactly who you really were.
Mark pressed the emergency call button on his phone screen without hesitation.
Mark: Yes, I need officers and an ambulance at my address immediately.
Eleanor sank down onto the wooden bench in the upper hallway, defeated.
She placed her face in her hands as the weight of her choices crashed down.
Mark walked back down the grand staircase to stand firmly beside his wife.
He wrapped his strong arm around Sarah's waist to support her weight.
Mark: The paramedics will be here in five minutes to check on you and the baby.
Sarah: I just want this nightmare to be over, Mark.
Mark: It is over... she will never hurt anyone in this house again.
