The grand Texas ballroom was filled with bright sunlight and happy voices.
Guests stood around white flower arrangements while waiting for the vows to begin.
Mark adjusted his black tuxedo tie and looked out over the crowded room.
He was a successful oil executive preparing to marry his fiancee Victoria.
Victoria smiled at her bridesmaids while adjusting her beautiful ivory wedding gown.
Everything appeared completely perfect on the surface of this wealthy celebration.
Suddenly a tiny boy in a matching white suit ran across the room.
His name was Toby and he was Mark's five-year-old beloved son.
Toby was not looking at Victoria or the large white wedding cake.
He was staring directly at a catering maid who held a silver tray.
The maid dropped her tray onto the polished white marble floor with a loud crash.
Toby: Mommy, you're alive!
The little boy wrapped his arms around the maid's waist and cried hysterically.
The maid dropped to her knees and held the young boy tightly against her chest.
Mark froze near the altar as the sound of the child's voice echoed everywhere.
Victoria's face turned pale before turning into a deep red expression of pure rage.
She stomped across the pristine floor toward the crying maid and child.
Victoria: Get your filthy hands off him!
Victoria grabbed the maid by her thin shoulders and shoved her hard.
The poor woman tumbled backward onto the hard marble floor.
Toby stood in front of the fallen maid with his small fists clenched tightly.
Toby: Leave my mommy alone!
The entire room became completely silent as guests held their breath in utter shock.
The maid reached beneath her uniform collar with a trembling hand.
She pulled out a delicate gold chain holding a sparkling wedding ring.
Elena: He gave me this promise ring five years ago before the accident happened.
Mark rushed down the aisle faster than he had ever run in his entire life.
He dropped to his knees right beside the trembling maid on the bright floor.
Mark: Elena?! You survived that terrible car crash?!
Mark looked into her tear-filled eyes and felt his whole world begin to spin.
He had believed his true love had died five long years ago in a dark river.
Now she was standing right in front of him wearing a worker uniform.
Toby pointed a shaking finger straight at Victoria's frantic face.
Toby: She paid those bad men to take mommy away and hide her!
