An Antique Brass Sphere Revealed A Hidden Fortune

Mark picked up the top document, unfolding the thick parchment paper carefully to avoid tearing the old yellowed edges. The official signature of Arthur Pendelton Senior was clearly visible beside a large red wax notary seal.

Below it was a clear clause stating that the land was deeded permanently to the town trust, completely exempt from bank seizure.

Officer Miller: This document proves the bank never had the legal right to foreclose on this property.

Marcus: And it proves my father owned the surrounding fifty acres of timberland free and clear.

Arthur slumped back against the wooden pew, his face losing all of its red color as he stared at the papers. His hands trembled against his knees, his arrogant demeanor completely gone in the face of absolute proof.

Arthur: That document is old. It... it has no standing after all these years!

Officer Miller: A fraud charge involving land deeds and stolen bank funds has no statute of limitations, Arthur.

Marcus: You destroyed my family's reputation for thirty years so you could harvest that timberland.

Arthur: It was just business! Your father was a simple carpenter who didn't understand finance!

Marcus stood up tall, looking down at the defeated banker with cold, steady eyes filled with righteous quiet anger.

Marcus: My father understood honesty, Pendelton. That's something your money could never buy you.

Mark reached for his radio on his shoulder, clicking the microphone button to contact the county dispatch desk.

Officer Miller: Dispatch, this is Unit Four. I need a secondary unit at Grace Community Church immediately.

Dispatch: Copy that, Unit Four. What is the nature of the request?

Officer Miller: I have one male suspect in custody for bank fraud and grand larceny charges.

Arthur buried his face in his trembling hands, uttering a soft groan of complete defeat as he sat helpless on the pew. The bright afternoon sunlight continued to shine through the tall stained glass windows, filling the sanctuary with warmth.

Marcus walked over to the antique armillary sphere, touching the quiet brass rings one last time with respect.

Marcus: You did it, Dad. Everyone knows the truth now.

Mark approached Marcus, placing a supportive hand on the younger man's shoulder as they waited for backup to arrive.

Officer Miller: Let me take these documents to the station as official evidence, Marcus.

Marcus: Take them. The whole town needs to see what kind of man Arthur Pendelton really is.

The police officer approaches the large wooden double doors, opens them wide, and exits out into the bright daylight under the arched white building entrance. Marcus followed right behind him, carrying the steel box safely under his dark canvas arm.

The fresh outdoor air smelled crisp and clean as the two men stepped out onto the wide stone walkway leading down.
