The Ultimatum in the Living Room

Her Husband Ordered Her to Stop Praying Every Day

Marcus: What is this nonsense still doing on the mantelpiece, Hannah?

Hannah looked up from her sewing basket in shock as Marcus pointed forcefully toward her small wooden prayer shrine.

His face was flushed red with sudden rage, his dark eyes staring at her with cold contempt and aggression.

Hannah: Marcus, what's wrong? That's just my prayer corner.

Marcus: I am sick and tired of looking at your foolish devotion every time I walk into this room!

Hannah: What are you saying? You knew how important my faith was before we even got married!

Marcus: That was before! I was putting on a show so I could win you over!

The words hit Hannah like a physical blow, making her stand up from the sofa with trembling hands.

She could barely believe that the gentle man she married was standing before her screaming vicious words of hatred.

Hannah: You lied to me? You pretended to care about church just to trick me?

Marcus: You were wealthy, naive, and easy to manipulate! But I will not tolerate this pathetic routine anymore!

He stepped closer, towering over her with heavy footsteps that echoed across the quiet hardwood floor of the living room.

Marcus: My associates visit this house! I have a high-status reputation to maintain in this corporate community!

Hannah: Praying does not ruin your reputation, Marcus! It keeps our home grounded in love and peace!

Marcus: It makes you look weak and superstitious! And I will not be dragged down by your ridiculous habits!

Hannah squeezed her hands together, tears swelling in her eyes as her husband leaned down directly into her face.

Marcus: Listen to me carefully right now, Hannah.

Hannah: Please stop shouting at me...

Marcus: If you keep doing this, I will leave you!

The sharp threat hung heavy in the air, freezing Hannah in place as sheer panic washed over her heart.

She had lost her parents years ago, and the thought of a broken marriage frightened her to her core.

Marcus: Do you understand me? You throw those books away, or I file for divorce and take everything!

Hannah: Marcus, please... don't force me to choose between my beliefs and my husband.

Marcus: I am your husband! Your total loyalty belongs to me now, not to your invisible god!

He slammed his fist against the fireplace, causing the small ceramic cross to rattle dangerously on the mantel shelf.

Hannah collapsed onto her knees on the hard oak floor, weeping softly as tears streamed down her red cheeks.

Hannah: Why are you being so cruel to me?

Marcus: Because I control this house! You will obey me starting today, or you will end up with nothing!

He stood sternly near the doorway, watching her bow her head in silent terror and helpless grief on the floor.

Terrified of losing her marriage, Hannah pressed her forehead against her folded hands and remained completely silent.

Marcus: Good. I'm glad we finally have an understanding.

He turned on his heel and walked away, leaving Hannah weeping alone in the quiet center of the living room.

She complied on the outside, removing the altar from the mantelpiece to keep peace in her turbulent home.

Yet deep inside her soul, Hannah swore that she would never truly give up her silent connection to God.
