Confrontation in the Foyer

Evelyn: Ah! You... you hit me!

Eleanor: YOU MONSTER!

Evelyn: How dare you strike me in my own home!

Eleanor: This is my son's home, built on our family estate, and you will not bring your filthy cruelty into this house for another second!

Evelyn fell to the polished floor, holding her reddened cheek in total shock. Her hair was messy, and her carefully polished image was completely shattered in an instant.

Evelyn: I'll have you arrested for assault! I'll call the police right now!

Eleanor: Oh, the police are coming, but they won't be arresting me.

Eleanor reached into her handbag and pulled out her smartphone with steady, calm, and deliberate movements. She stood directly in front of the framed American flag artwork hanging in the main hallway.

Evelyn: What are you doing? Who are you calling?

Eleanor: CALL 911 RIGHT NOW! TEXAS POLICE ARE ON THEIR WAY!

Evelyn: Stop! Wait! We can talk about this! Don't involve the authorities!

Eleanor: Operator? I need emergency police officers dispatched immediately to the Vance estate on Oakridge Drive. We have an active child abuse situation in progress.

Evelyn: Eleanor, please! Think about Arthur's reputation! Think about the family business!

Eleanor: My son's reputation means nothing compared to the safety of his daughter!

Maria stood near the sofa, holding Lily safely in her arms. The toddler had finally stopped crying loudly, burying her face into Maria's shoulder while listening to her grandmother's powerful voice.

Lily: Grandma... is the bad lady going away?

Eleanor: Yes, my darling girl. She's going away for a very long time.

Evelyn: You can't prove anything! It's just the maid's word against mine!

Maria: It's not just my word, Evelyn.

Evelyn: What are you talking about?

Maria: Check the ceiling corners. Mr. Vance installed high-definition security cameras in the living room and foyer last month to monitor the home insurance coverage.

Evelyn's face instantly went pale, all the color draining from her lips as she looked up toward the small black dome lens mounted above the crown molding.
