Marcus: Stay back from the shards, Lily. Do not move an inch until I clear a path for you.
Lily: Daddy, I swear I am telling the truth! I was getting a glass of water from the secondary pantry sink when she came in!
Clara: Marcus, this is complete hysteria! You are going to listen to an eight-year-old over your own wife?
Marcus: Shut up, Clara! Just stand right there and do not move your hands from your sides!
Marcus dropped to his knees right beside the green puddle, his breathing heavy as he looked at the shattered glass scattered across the expensive floor. His heart pounded against his ribs like a sledgehammer. He reached out with a trembling hand, grabbing a clean linen napkin from the counter to carefully soak up a sample of the green liquid before it could be wiped away.
Clara: You are acting completely out of your mind! I made you a organic spinach and wheatgrass smoothie! That is all it was!
Lily: That is not what it was! She had a little blue glass bottle with a skull marking on it! She hid it behind the cereal boxes after pouring it into the blender!
Marcus: A blue bottle? Clara, look at me right now. Is there a blue bottle in the pantry?
Clara: Of course not! She is making up stories because she has resented me ever since we got married last year! She wants us to get a divorce so she can have you all to herself!
Marcus stood up slowly, his tall frame towering over his wife. His chest heaved with a mix of fury and sickening realization. He stepped past her and walked directly into the oversized walk-in pantry, his polished dress shoes clicking sharply on the floor.
Marcus: Let us see what is behind the cereal boxes then.
Clara: Don't go digging around in there like a lunatic! You are embarrassing yourself and disrespecting me in our own mansion!
Marcus pushed aside three large cardboard boxes on the second shelf, reaching into the shadowy back corner. His fingers brushed against cold, smooth glass. He pulled his hand back, holding a small dark-blue glass bottle with a rubber dropper top. The label was partially torn, but clear black lettering printed near the bottom was unmistakable: Industrial Grade Arsenic Concentrate.
Marcus: My God... Lily wasn't lying.
Clara: That... that isn't mine! I have never seen that bottle before in my life! Someone planted that in our home!
Marcus: Planted it? In our private locked pantry? Only you and I have the key code for this house's security system!
Clara: Marcus, please, listen to me! Why would I ever want to hurt you? I love you! I left my entire career in Chicago to build a life with you here in Dallas!
Marcus: You didn't leave your career for me. You left it for my estate, my life insurance, and my company stock!
Lily: Daddy, please hold me... I'm scared!
Marcus turned away from Clara, dropping the blue bottle carefully inside a clear zip-top bag from the counter. He walked over to his daughter and pulled her into a tight, protective embrace, lifting her up away from the floor.
Marcus: YOU'RE SAFE NOW, SWEETHEART. I will never let anyone hurt you again. Never.
Clara: Marcus, if you call the police, this will ruin everything! Think about the company stock price! Think about the media coverage!
Marcus: I don't care about the stock price! You tried to murder me in cold blood right in front of my child!
The sharp red and blue emergency lights suddenly began flashing against the grand tall windows of the mansion's entryway. The sound of heavy tires crunching on the gravel driveway announced the arrival of the police. Clara stepped back toward the side door leading to the garage, her eyes darting around frantically as she realized her plan had completely collapsed.
