The man moved closer to the little girl and spoke calmly.
Man: You can tell me what happened. I'm listening.
The girl looked toward the woman in blue.
The woman immediately interrupted.
Woman: Don't encourage her. She always exaggerates.
The man slowly stood up.
Man: Then let her speak for herself.
The hallway became silent.
The little girl wiped her tears and finally found the courage to speak.
Little Girl: She was angry because I told her I saw what she did.
The man’s expression changed.
Man: What did you see?
The woman suddenly became nervous.
Woman: She's confused. None of this is true.
The girl pointed toward the room behind them.
Little Girl: I saw her take something from that room.
The man turned toward the room.
For the first time, he began wondering whether the argument was about something much bigger than a child misbehaving.
