The Bitter Secret Behind A Stepmother's Poisoned Wine

Marcus sat at his dark mahogany desk inside the quiet Texas estate.

He looked at the financial files scattered across his expensive leather desk.

Something felt wrong about the recent transactions in the family business trust fund.

His sweet seven-year-old daughter Lily walked slowly into the bright office space.

She squeezed her favorite stuffed bear tightly against her small blue dress.

Lily: Daddy, I saw something strange near the kitchen cart.

Marcus looked up from his papers and gave her a warm smile.

Marcus: What did you see, my sweet girl?

Lily: Victoria was putting liquid into your private wine glass.

Marcus felt a cold chill run down his back instantly.

He stood up slowly and walked toward his young daughter.

Marcus: Are you sure about this, Lily?

Lily: Yes, she told me to stay silent or else.

A sharp rush of anger filled Marcus as he processed her heavy words.

He held his daughter's soft hand and walked into the foyer.

Victoria was standing near the grand bar cart holding a crystal glass.

Her dark burgundy dress looked bright against the white marble floor.

Victoria: Marcus, I brought you some red wine after your long day.

Marcus: Put the glass down on the tray right now.

Victoria froze as she noticed the serious look on his pale face.

Victoria: Is everything okay with you two tonight?

Marcus: My daughter told me what you poured into that drink.

Victoria dropped her polite smile and glinted with sudden anger.

Victoria: You are really going to believe a child over me?

Lily: I saw the small bottle in her pocket, Daddy!

Victoria took a quick step toward the frightened girl.

Victoria: Shut your mouth right now!

Marcus stepped firmly between Victoria and his little girl.

Marcus: Do not take another step toward my child!

He pulled his smartphone from his coat pocket and dialed emergency services.

Victoria: What do you think you are doing, Marcus?

Marcus: I am saving my life and protecting my family business.

Victoria panicked and tried to hurry toward the heavy oak exit doors.

Marcus blocked the doorway with his wide frame before she could escape.

Marcus: You are not going anywhere until officers arrive.

The loud sound of sirens echoed down the long private driveway outside.

Bright blue lights flashed across the high glass windows of the mansion.

Two officers entered the home and looked at the crystal glass.

Officer: We received an urgent call about a poisoned drink, sir.

Marcus: The evidence is right on that cart, officer.

One officer carefully secured the bottle and glass as evidence.

The other officer turned Victoria around and pulled out his heavy handcuffs.

Victoria: You will regret making this mistake, Marcus!

Marcus: You tried to steal my estate and end my life.

The officer clicked the cold steel cuffs firmly around her wrists.

Marcus lifted Lily into his arms and held her close.

Marcus: You are going straight to federal prison!

Victoria glared at him as officers led her away in shame.

Marcus: Never step foot in Texas ever again!

Lily rested her small head against her father's shoulder.

Lily: Is everything going to be okay now, Daddy?

Marcus kissed her forehead softly as peace returned to their home.

Marcus: Yes, my angel, we are completely safe now.
