The morning light streamed through the towering arched windows of the grand Dallas mansion, illuminating the polished marble floors and the massive, three-tiered luxury wedding cake standing in the center of the ballroom. Soft light glinted off the crystal chandeliers, creating an atmosphere of sheer elegance. But that stillness was shattered the moment Clara, clad in her black maid's uniform, grabbed a heavy silver serving knife. Her chest heaved with ragged breaths as she raised the blade high and slammed it directly into the side of the pristine white frosting, dragging it down in a violent, desperate cut.
Clara: I have to do this... before it is too late!
Her hands trembled violently inside her white cotton gloves, but she didn't stop. She carved wildly into the delicate fondant, sending sugar decorations crashing onto the marble table.
Victoria: WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?!
Victoria's voice shrieked across the ballroom as she burst through the double doors, her red silk designer dress swishing furiously. She looked like a fury in diamonds, her face flushed with absolute outrage as she pointed a manicured finger at Clara.
Victoria: Are you insane?! You're destroying a four-thousand-dollar cake! Get away from there, you psycho!
Julian: Stop right there, Clara. Hand me the knife.
Julian, tall, broad-shouldered, and wearing a tailored grey suit that couldn't hide the tattoos creeping up his neck or the faint scar along his jawline, stepped forward with authoritative composure. He lunged out and caught Clara by her gloved wrist, his grip firm but careful.
Victoria: Julian, fire her! Call the police immediately! She's out of her mind! Look at what she did to our wedding cake!
Victoria rushed to Julian's side, grabbing his arm with desperate strength. Her eyes darted wildly between the ruined cake and the maid standing before them.
Victoria: Please don't cut it any further! She burned herself in the bakery earlier today, Julian! She's sterile and bitter, and she wants to ruin our life because she has nothing!
Julian froze. His dark eyes shifted slowly from Victoria's panic-stricken face down to Clara's wrist, where his fingers were clamped over her white glove. A cold, heavy silence fell over the sunlit room as Julian's gaze hardened.
Julian: The bakery staff left before four o'clock this afternoon, Victoria... Take off the glove, Clara.
Clara: Sir... the cake isn't the problem... Please, you have to look deeper.
Clara's tears spilled over her pale cheeks as she used her free hand to slowly peel back the blood-stained glove, revealing ugly, fresh red burn marks along her forearm. Julian's eyes narrowed as Clara reached with trembling fingers into the deep, hollowed gap she had carved inside the red-fill cake layer. Her hand brushed past the ceramic bride topper and pulled out a small, metallic object caked in red frosting—a black USB flash drive.
Clara: The woman from the bakery said you had to see this before you married her! This is New York proof!
Julian stared at the drive resting in his palm, the heavy silence hanging in the air like a blade waiting to drop.
