Daniel searched the nearby table and found a spare key inside a small drawer.
The little girl stayed close beside him.
Little Girl: That's the door.
Daniel unlocked it and opened the cellar.
The room was dim, but nothing dangerous was visible. There were boxes, old furniture, and several storage shelves.
Then they heard a voice.
Voice: Daniel?
Daniel immediately recognized it.
Daniel: Sarah!
He found Sarah sitting safely inside a small storage room. She looked exhausted and confused.
The little girl ran toward her.
Little Girl: Mommy!
Sarah hugged her daughter.
Sarah: I'm here. I'm okay.
Daniel turned toward Amelia.
Daniel: Why was she locked down here?
Amelia began crying.
Amelia: I didn't lock her here.
Sarah looked at Amelia.
Sarah: Then who did?
Silence filled the room.
The little girl suddenly remembered something.
Little Girl: I saw Uncle Robert with the key.
Daniel's expression changed.
Daniel: Robert?
Robert was Daniel's older brother and one of the few people who knew about the cellar.
Amelia shook her head.
Amelia: I tried to tell you.
Daniel: You made me think you were hiding something.
Amelia: Because Robert told me to stay quiet.
Sarah looked shocked.
Sarah: Why would he do that?
Amelia lowered her voice.
Amelia: He said there was something in this house he didn't want you to discover.
Daniel looked around the cellar.
Daniel: What is he hiding?
Sarah pointed toward an old cabinet.
Sarah: I found these documents before I was locked inside.
Daniel opened the cabinet.
Inside were old family papers and financial records.
His expression became serious.
