The Maid Who Saved My Baby Was Fired by My Wife

The scream that tore through our Dallas mansion didn’t sound human. I dropped my briefcase on the hardwood foyer floor, the sharp sound echoing off the high ceilings as my heart slammed against my ribs. Something was terribly wrong. I raced up the grand marble staircase, my shoes skidding on the polished steps, following the hysterical screeching toward the second-floor balcony.

When I burst through the double doors, the sight before me made my blood run cold. Elena, our young live-in maid, was lying flat on her stomach across the freezing white marble floor. Her chest was heaving, her apron crumpled beneath her, and her entire body shook with violent, uncontrollable sobs. Clutched tightly against her chest was my six-month-old daughter, Lily, who was wailing at the top of her tiny lungs.

Mark: What happened?! Is she hurt?!

Elena: I... I have her, sir! She’s safe! I caught her!

Before I could even step toward them, my wife Victoria swept into the hallway, her face flushed red, her designer dress swishing aggressively. Her arms were raised in wild, dramatic gestures as she pointed a manicured finger directly at Elena’s trembling form.

Victoria: Get her away from our baby! Mark, she tried to kill our daughter! She dropped her over the balcony railing!

Elena: No! That’s not true! Mrs. Vance, please, tell him the truth!

Victoria: Don’t you dare lie, you pathetic thief! You fumbled her! You almost killed my child!

Mark: Victoria, calm down and tell me what’s going on!

Victoria: I don't have to explain anything to a murderer! Get out of my house right now, Elena! Pack your garbage and leave before I call the police!

Elena squeezed her eyes shut, heavy tears streaming down her pale cheeks as she gently rocked my crying baby. She looked up at me, her brown eyes pleading, silently begging me to believe her. But Victoria was already shoving her toward the front door, shouting threats about calling the Dallas Police Department and filing full criminal charges. I stood frozen, caught between my wife’s hysterical accusations and the maid’s frantic tears, completely unaware that the horror on the balcony was only the first layer of a terrifying truth.
