The marble foyer of the Kensington estate in Dallas was usually quiet at sunrise, but today the sound of sharp high heels echoed against the high ceilings. Victoria Kensington strutted toward the heavy front doors, her designer gown trailing behind her as she held a velvet jewelry box tightly against her chest.

Victoria: Out of my way! If anyone tries to stop me, I'll make sure you're fired before noon!

She did not look back at the staff standing near the grand staircase. Victoria was used to getting whatever she wanted, and today she was taking the family's most valuable inheritance before the probate lawyer could even review the estate.

Elena, the house maid who had worked quietly in the background for three years, dashed across the slick polished marble floor. She threw herself forward and lunged, grabbing Victoria’s ankle right mid-stride.

Victoria: Let go of me! How dare you touch me, you worthless pest!

Elena: Please! Don't make me cause a scene in front of the whole family!

Victoria kicked her leg back hard, trying to break free, but Elena kept a tight grip on her high heel, holding her firmly in place on the pristine white floor.

Julian Kensington, the wealthy heir to the shipping empire, hurried into the foyer in his black tuxedo, his face pale with absolute shock as he saw the maid on her knees holding his sister’s foot.
