The white bundle cut through the damp morning air like a falling star, spinning wildly as gravity pulled it downward toward the unforgiving marble tiles. Clara screamed, a raw, animalistic sound tearing straight from the depths of her soul as she threw herself across the checkered floor. Her knees scraped raw against the hard stone, but she felt no pain—only the desperate, overriding drive to save her child from certain destruction. Just inches above the floor, her outstretched hands collided with the soft fabric, wrapping around the tiny form and pulling it tightly against her chest as she crashed down hard. A sharp shock rippled through her shoulders, but she tucked the bundle safely into her arms, rolling onto her side to shield him from the impact. The tiny infant let out a startled gasp, followed instantly by a healthy, furious cry that proved he was miraculously alive and unharmed. Clara buried her face in the soft blanket, sobbing uncontrollably as she pressed endless kisses against the tiny forehead, thanking every unseen force for the miracle.
Clara: Oh, thank God... you're safe, my sweet boy. Mommy's got you. You're safe now.
Above them, the heavy oak front doors flew open with a violent crash, slamming against the exterior stone pillars of the grand entryway. David Vance, the billionaire heir and master of the estate, stood in the doorway, his chest heaving as he stared in utter shock at the chaotic scene unfolding before him. He had just returned from a late-night corporate flight across the country, expecting a quiet homecoming to his luxurious mansion. Instead, he found his personal maid sobbing on the floor cradling a newborn baby, and his mother standing frozen on the balcony above. David dropped his leather briefcase onto the floor, his eyes darting frantically between Clara and the upper landing as his mind struggled to process the nightmare.
David: What on earth is going on down here? Clara, why are you on the floor? Whose baby is that?
Clara: She tried to kill him, David! Your mother just threw him off the balcony! She tried to murder my baby!
Clara pointed a shaking finger upward toward the second-floor railing, her voice cracking with pure adrenaline and righteous fury as she clutched the infant tighter. David’s head whipped around toward the balcony, his jaw tightening into a hard, furious line as he looked up at his mother. Eleanor stood paralyzed by the wrought-iron railing, the color completely drained from her sophisticated face, her hands hovering nervously in the empty air. The impenetrable mask of aristocratic composure she always wore had completely shattered, leaving behind the unmistakable expression of a cornered criminal. She gripped the metal baluster for support, her breath coming in short, panicked gasps as she realized her son had witnessed the tail end of her malicious act.
Eleanor: David! Thank goodness you're finally home! You have to listen to me right now before this lying girl twists the story!
David: Stay right where you are, Mother. Do not move an inch. I am coming up there right now to get some straight answers.
Eleanor: Honey, it was an accident! I was holding the bundle, and it just slipped out of my hands! I swear to you it was a complete accident!
Clara: She’s lying! She looked right down at me and dropped him on purpose! She wanted him dead!
David didn't answer his mother's frantic excuses; he turned on his heel and bolted up the grand staircase two steps at a time, his blood boiling with cold fury. Eleanor stumbled backward from the railing, her designer dress swishing loudly against the hardwood floor as her son closed the distance between them. The air in the second-floor hallway grew ice-cold as David cornered her against the ornate wall near the master suite, his eyes blazing with a dangerous, unfamiliar fire.
