Elena pulled her cell phone out of her pocket with shaking hands and called Richard immediately.
Richard answered on the third ring, his voice sounding tired from his long business trip flight.
"Elena? What is wrong? Why are you calling my personal number during the middle of the workday?"
"Mr. Sterling, you need to come home right now!" Elena cried out into the small phone.
"Victoria tried to hurt baby Leo today, and she forged your name on the adoption papers!"
There was a long silence on the line before Richard spoke in a cold, serious voice.
"I am landing at the airport right now," Richard said firmly. "I will be there in ten minutes."
Outside the security booth, Victoria was pounding furiously on the thick glass window with her fists.
"Open this door right now, Elena!" Victoria screamed loudly, her polished hair completely messy now.
"Nobody will ever believe a poor maid over a rich woman like me!" she screamed wildly.
Elena stayed inside the safe booth, holding the baby's legal papers close to her heart.
Ten long minutes felt like ten hours as Elena watched the front driveway through the window.
Finally, a sleek black sedan pulled up to the gate, stopping abruptly behind Victoria's car.
Richard stepped out of the back seat, followed closely by two local police officers in uniform.
Victoria instantly changed her expression, dropping to the floor and crying fake tearful sobs loudly.
"Richard, thank goodness you are here!" Victoria sobbed as she pointed toward the small booth.
"Elena has lost her mind! She tried to steal your private legal documents and attacked me!"
Richard ignored Victoria completely and walked straight toward the security booth with the police officers.
Elena unlocked the door and stepped outside, handing the manila envelope directly to Richard's hands.
"Look at these papers, Mr. Sterling," Elena said softly, her voice calm and steady now.
"And check the hallway security cameras from nine o'clock this morning near the main staircase."
Richard opened the envelope and read through the court papers while his face grew dark and pale.
He pulled out his smartphone and accessed the home security camera footage recorded earlier that day.
The high-definition video clearly showed Victoria intentionally shoving the stroller down the long stairs.
It also captured Elena sprinting across the room to catch the stroller right before it crashed.
Richard turned toward Victoria, his eyes filled with absolute disgust and deep heartbreak over the truth.
"Officers, arrest this woman immediately," Richard commanded in a sharp, stern tone of voice.
The police officers grabbed Victoria's arms and placed heavy steel handcuffs around her wrists tightly.
"You can't do this to me!" Victoria shrieked as she was dragged toward the police car.
Richard walked over to Elena and took her hand, tears forming in his tired eyes now.
"You saved my son's life today, Elena," Richard said with deep, genuine gratitude in his voice.
"I can never repay you for your bravery and honesty in this terrible house," he added.
"I just wanted to keep baby Leo safe from harm," Elena replied with a soft smile.
Richard promised to hire a team of proper legal experts to make Leo's adoption official.
He also offered Elena a permanent position as the child's full-time head guardian with high pay.
Elena happily accepted, knowing that little Leo would finally grow up in a safe home.
