The oppressive quiet inside the sprawling Dallas luxury estate was shattered by a sudden, desperate clatter of metal against marble. Elena stood in the grand hallway, her white maid apron trembling against her dress as her hands gripped the heavy iron handle of a sledgehammer. Her knuckles turned stark white under the glaring chandelier light.
Elena: Please God... let me be in time.
She dragged the heavy tool toward the newly renovated drywall near the rear staircase. Sweat dripped down her pale forehead as she raised the hammer above her shoulder. Behind the thick plaster, a muffled, tiny thumping sound echoed through the hollow wall, followed by a faint, terrified whimpering that made Elena's blood run cold.
Elena: I hear you! Stay back from the board!
With a desperate scream, she swung the hammer with everything she had into the solid wall. The plaster cracked with a deafening bang, sending a cloud of white dust into the pristine hall. She smashed it again and again, tearing away jagged chunks of drywall until a gaping hole opened up, revealing a cramped, pitch-black cavity hidden beneath the stairs.
Elena: C'mon... stretch your hand out!
Inside the dusty hole sat seven-year-old Toby, covered in plaster powder, his arms wrapped tightly around his knees as tears streaked his filthy cheeks. Elena reached in, her arms shaking as she pulled the terrified boy out into the open air. Just as Toby dropped to his knees on the marble floor, loud designer heels clicked furiously down the hallway.
Victoria: What on earth are you doing, you idiot?! Stop right now!
Victoria rushed into the hall, her silk gown billowing around her as her eyes flared with pure venom. She grabbed Elena’s arm aggressively, trying to yank her away from the broken wall.
Victoria: Close it up! Put him back right now! He isn't allowed to be out here!
Elena: Get off me! He’s just a little boy! You're a monster, Victoria!
Victoria: I pay your salary, you worthless trash! You cover that hole before—
Arthur: Before what, Victoria?
The heavy oak front doors swung open, revealing Arthur standing in the entryway in his dark charcoal suit, his briefcase slipping from his frozen hand and crashing to the floor. His face went completely pale as his eyes locked onto his covered-in-dust son sitting on the floor.
Arthur: Toby...? You... you told me my son died in the hospital three months ago!
Victoria: Arthur, sweetie, don't look at this! The maid has gone insane, she brought a stranger into our house!
Elena: She's lying to you, Mr. Vance! Look at your boy!
Arthur sprinted across the foyer, falling hard onto his knees beside the weeping child. He pulled Toby into a tight, desperate embrace, his own tears spilling over his tailored jacket.
Arthur: My baby... my sweet boy... you're alive...
Toby: Daddy! My stepmother locked me in there! She mocked me every day! But I kept it, Daddy... I recorded all her secrets!
Toby lifted his small, dusty hand, revealing a tiny black USB drive clamped tightly in his fist. Victoria's face turned as white as the plaster dust hanging in the air.
Arthur: What is this, Toby?
Toby: She talked on the phone near the wall... about the money, the life insurance, and your company...
Arthur slowly stood up, his soft expression instantly hardening into pure, unbridled rage. He turned to face Victoria, whose arrogance had suddenly evaporated into sheer panic.
Victoria: Arthur, listen to me, he's confused! He's sick!
Before she could utter another word, Arthur stepped forward and delivered a hard, resounding slap across her face. The impact echoed through the high-ceilinged mansion, sending Victoria stumbling backward against the ruined wall.
Victoria: You... you struck me?!
Arthur: You're finished! Elena, call 911 right now and tell them to bring the police and my divorce lawyer!
Elena: Right away, sir!
Victoria: Arthur, please! We can talk about the estate, the trust fund, everything!
Arthur: You will never touch a single cent of my family's fortune, Victoria. You are going to rot in prison for what you did to my son.
