The Final Justice

The Secret Inside the Bear

Six months later, the sun shone brightly over the municipal courthouse steps. David stood near the stone pillars, holding a clean, restored version of Mark's teddy bear in one hand, and holding Mark's small hand in the other.

Michael walked out of the heavy brass doors, carrying a signed court order in his leather folder.

Michael: It's officially over, David. The judge just finalized the verdict.

David: What's the sentence?

Michael: Fifteen years in federal prison for extortion, wire fraud, and grand larceny, plus an additional five years for child endangerment and cruelty. No chance of parole for at least twelve years.

David: What about the trust fund estate?

Michael: Fully recovered. Every asset Victoria tried to funnel into her shell accounts has been transferred into a secure, court-protected trust fund for Mark. The four million dollars, plus interest, will be fully available to him when he turns twenty-one.

David: Thank you, Michael. For everything.

Michael: Don't thank me. Thank Sarah. She was smart enough to protect her boy even when she knew her time was running out.

Mark looked up at his father, clutching his newly washed teddy bear against his chest.

Mark: Daddy, can we go get ice cream now?

David: We can get whatever you want, buddy. Chocolate, strawberry, three scoops!

Mark: Yay! Look, Mommy's bear is happy now!

David kneeled down, brushing a lock of hair away from his son's forehead.

David: Yeah, Mark. Mommy's bear is happy. And your mommy is watching over us, knowing that we're safe, happy, and free.

They walked down the courthouse steps together, leaving the dark nightmare of the past behind them as they stepped into a bright, secure future built on truth, justice, and endless love.
