Officer Miller: Mr. Vance, we need to inspect the baby and take a quick statement from your housekeeper.[span_95](start_span)[span_95](end_span)
Richard: They are downstairs in the kitchen, Officer. Maria saved my daughter’s life today.[span_96](start_span)[span_96](end_span)
Evelyn: She’s an illegal worker! Check her papers! She has no right to be in this country[span_97](start_span)[span_97](end_span)!
Richard: Maria is a full U.S. citizen with legal residency, Evelyn. Stop digging your hole deeper.[span_98](start_span)[span_98](end_span)
Officer Davis: Let’s walk downstairs, ma'am. Keep moving.[span_99](start_span)[span_99](end_span)
Evelyn: Richard, call my divorce lawyer! Call Arthur right now[span_100](start_span)[span_100](end_span)!
Richard: Arthur already dropped you as a client this afternoon after I sent him the preliminary audit of the stolen accounts.[span_101](start_span)[span_101](end_span)
Evelyn: What?! You talked to my lawyer?[span_102](start_span)[span_102](end_span)!
Richard: He realized you were using his firm to forge power of attorney documents over Clara’s trust. He wants nothing to do with you.[span_103](start_span)[span_103](end_span)
Evelyn stumbles down the stairs, escorted by the officers, her posture deflated and her face filled with panic[span_104](start_span)[span_104](end_span). Down in the foyer, Maria stands with Clara wrapped safely in a warm blanket[span_105](start_span)[span_105](end_span). The second officer checks the baby's limbs gently[span_106](start_span)[span_106](end_span).
Officer Miller: The baby seems completely unharmed, thank goodness. That caught-on-camera rescue was nothing short of a miracle.[span_107](start_span)[span_107](end_span)
Maria: I just reacted, sir. I couldn't let anything happen to little Clara.[span_108](start_span)[span_108](end_span)
Richard: Maria, I don't know how I can ever repay you for what you did today.[span_109](start_span)[span_109](end_span)
Maria: You don't owe me anything extra, Mr. Vance. I love this baby like my own.[span_110](start_span)[span_110](end_span)
Richard: You protected her when her own stepmother tried to hurt her. That changes everything in this house.[span_111](start_span)[span_111](end_span)
Evelyn: You're going to trust a maid over your legal wife?[span_112](start_span)[span_112](end_span)!
Richard: You are no longer my wife. I’m filing emergency annulment papers on grounds of fraud and felony assault tomorrow morning.[span_113](start_span)[span_113](end_span)
Evelyn: My family will sue you for every dime of your real estate business[span_114](start_span)[span_114](end_span)!
Richard: Your family’s company went bankrupt six months ago, Evelyn. That’s why you were stealing from my daughter’s trust, wasn't it?[span_115](start_span)[span_115](end_span)
Evelyn clamps her jaw shut, biting her lip so hard it bleeds[span_116](start_span)[span_116](end_span). She realizes her entire scheme has collapsed in front of the authorities[span_117](start_span)[span_117](end_span).
Officer Davis: We’re taking her down to the precinct for booking. We’ll need you to bring the video footage on a USB drive by tonight.[span_118](start_span)[span_118](end_span)
Richard: I’ll have my corporate lawyer deliver the hard drive in person within the hour.[span_119](start_span)[span_119](end_span)
Officer Miller: Good. Ma'am, get into the back of the cruiser.[span_120](start_span)[span_120](end_span)
The front door clicks shut as the officers lead Evelyn away into the flashing red and blue lights[span_121](start_span)[span_121](end_span). The mansion suddenly falls completely silent, except for the quiet ticking of the hallway clock[span_122](start_span)[span_122](end_span).
