Officer Miller explained the plan quickly while keeping the family safe behind the brick wall.
Officer Miller: We will leave the car parked right where it sits with the tracking device untouched.
Mark: Won't they realize something is wrong if we don't drive away?
Officer Miller: My partner and I will stage a decoy drive using your vehicle down the street.
Sarah looked worried as Mark stepped forward to hand his car keys over to the officer.
Sarah: Please be careful. Richard is desperate after losing his whole fortune in court.
Mark: He lost millions in the lawsuit settlement, so he has nothing left to lose.
Officer Miller took the keys and nodded firmly toward his fellow officer waiting near the patrol car.
Officer Miller: We have unmarked police units surrounding this entire suburban neighborhood right now.
They placed Sarah, Mark, and Maya inside the back of an unmarked police minivan down the block.
The dark tinted windows allowed them to watch the street without being seen by anyone passing by.
Two plainclothes officers got into Mark's silver sedan and started the engine smoothly.
They drove slowly down the sunlit pavement, pretending to be a normal family heading home from shopping.
Within two minutes, a heavy black SUV turned the corner from a side street and followed closely.
Mark: That is Richard's vehicle! Look at the license plate numbers!
Sarah: He fell right into the trap!
The plainclothes officer in the minivan spoke into his shoulder radio in a calm tone.
Officer: Target vehicle is following the decoy sedan down Oak Avenue toward the highway intersection.
Dispatch: Units move in for a tactical traffic stop immediately.
Maya watched through the dark window as two dark police sedans suddenly blocked the black SUV's path.
Siren lights burst into bright red and blue flashes against the peaceful suburban houses.
Maya: Are they catching the bad men now, Daddy?
Mark: Yes, honey, they are finally stopping them for good.
