Within ten minutes, the sound of blaring police sirens echoed down the long driveway of the private estate.
Victoria: Brandon, please cancel the police call! We can work this out privately! I’ll go to therapy!
Brandon: The only place you’re going is a state penitentiary.
The front double doors opened as three police officers stepped into the grand foyer, their hands resting on their duty belts.
Officer Harris: Mr. Brandon Hayes? We received an emergency report of attempted child endangerment.
Brandon: Officer, thank you for coming so fast. I have full video footage of my wife intentionally dropping my infant son from that upper balcony.
Victoria: Officer, that’s not true! I dropped him by accident and the maid caught him!
Officer Harris: Ma'am, step away from the stairs and keep your hands where we can see them.
Brandon walked over to the wall monitor, tapping the playback button to loop the high-definition video for the police officers.
Brandon: Look at the screen right here, Officer Harris. Timestamp twenty-two fourteen.
The officers stood in front of the wall screen, watching the clear footage of Victoria extending her arms over the banister and releasing the child.
Officer Harris: That’s... extremely clear footage, sir. She deliberately let go of the infant.
Victoria: It’s an optical illusion! The lighting in the foyer is dim!
Officer Harris: Ma'am, turn around and place your hands behind your back right now.
Victoria: Don't touch me! Brandon, tell them to stop! You can't let them arrest me like a criminal!
Brandon: You are a criminal, Victoria. And a monster.
The secondary officer pulled Victoria’s arms behind her back, snapping silver handcuffs onto her wrists with a heavy metallic click.
Victoria: You’ll regret this, Brandon! I’ll hire the best defense attorney in the state!
Brandon: Good luck finding an attorney who can explain away 4K security footage.
