The Sheriff Arrives

The Wealthy Father Banished The Nanny Until His Son Showed Him The Camera

Within twelve minutes, the high-pitched wail of police sirens cut through the quiet neighborhood as two marked cruisers turned into the circular driveway.

Sheriff Miller and Deputy Hayes stepped out, their boots crunching over the gravel path toward the group gathered near the patio.

Sheriff Miller: Adrian, we received your emergency call. What's going on here?

Victoria: Sheriff Miller, thank God you're here! My brother has had an emotional breakdown and is threatening me with violence!

Sheriff Miller: Lower your voice, Miss Vance. Adrian, report what happened.

Adrian: Sheriff, my sister deliberately released the brake on my infant daughter's stroller and shoved it down the embankment toward the lake.

Sheriff Miller: That is a serious allegation. Where was the child?

Adrian: Inside the carriage. My nanny, Claire, dove onto the rocks to stop the stroller from plunging into the water.

Sheriff Miller: Were there any witnesses to this incident?

Leo: Sheriff, I recorded the entire event from twenty feet overhead with my aerial survey drone.

Sheriff Miller took Leo's phone, leaning in beside Deputy Hayes as the crystal-clear video played from the beginning.

The screen showed Victoria looking around, raising her foot, kicking the lever, and shoving the handle with deliberate force.

Deputy Hayes: Jesus Christ... Look at that push.

Sheriff Miller: Miss Vance, did you touch that stroller?

Victoria: It was an accidental trip! My heel caught the fabric canopy!

Sheriff Miller: Your heel was six inches below the frame on the brake lever, ma'am. That is deliberate mechanical release followed by a two-handed shove.

Victoria: You don't have the technical expertise to make that determination!

Sheriff Miller: I have thirty years in law enforcement, Miss Vance. That is aggravated child endangerment and attempted reckless homicide.

Victoria: Do you know who my corporate lawyer is? Richard Sterling will have your badge before dinner!

Sheriff Miller: Mr. Sterling can meet us at the county detention facility. Deputy Hayes, place Miss Vance under arrest.

Deputy Hayes unclipped a set of steel handcuffs from his utility belt, stepping directly in front of Victoria.

Victoria: Don't you dare touch me! Adrian, call them off! We can handle this through the trust committee!

Adrian: The trust committee will be voting on your immediate removal as trustee tomorrow morning at eight sharp.

Victoria: You're destroying our family name over a maid!

Adrian: Claire isn't a maid. She is the person who saved my daughter's life while you tried to trade it for money.

Deputy Hayes pulled Victoria's hands behind her back, the metal clicking shut tightly around her wrists.

Victoria: Let go of me! Adrian, you will regret this! You will lose everything in court!

Sheriff Miller: Walk toward the cruiser, Miss Vance. You have the right to remain silent.

Victoria's designer heels dragged through the wet grass as she was escorted down the driveway, her shrill complaints fading as the patrol car door slammed shut.

Adrian turned back to the patio, holding Lily close against his chest as the baby let out a tiny, soft sigh.

Adrian: Claire... let me look at your hands.

Claire slowly held out her palms, covered in deep scratches, bruised knuckles, and embedded gravel dust.

Adrian: Leo, bring the first-aid kit from the kitchen right now.

Leo: On it, Dad.
