The Shadow Partner Unmasked

The Whispering Chair in the Dallas Mansion

Richard: You think a couple of panicked words from a hysterical woman are going to hold up in court, Vance? Good luck proving I signed off on anything.

Arthur: I don't need luck, Richard. My entire dining hall is equipped with high-definition security cameras—including crystal-clear audio recording for security purposes.

Victoria: What? You said those cameras were turned off during private family dinners!

Arthur: I said that so my enemies would feel comfortable making their moves. I’ve been running this corporation for thirty years, Victoria. Did you really think I didn't notice the sudden leak in our quarterly earnings reports?

Victoria: You... you knew all along?

Arthur: I knew there was a leak in my inner circle, but I prayed it wasn't the woman I asked to share my life. You proved your true nature tonight.

Clara: Mr. Vance, what about the earpiece? Someone spoke into it just moments ago while we were standing here.

Arthur: That means there is still a third person connected to this network inside this room. Someone gave the command into a radio transmitter when Clara pulled the bug out.

The guests began looking at each other with intense suspicion. Whispers broke out as people moved away from their neighbors.

Richard: Don't look at me. I don't have a transmitter on me.

Arthur: No, but your attorney standing right behind you does. Mr. Lawson, step out from the shade of that archway.

Lawson, the tall, sharp-suited attorney who had handled Arthur’s family trust for five years, stepped forward. His face was rigid, devoid of any emotion.

Lawson: Arthur, you're making a massive mistake. I was merely representing Mr. Sterling's legal interests during tonight's preliminary discussion.

Arthur: Then why is your coat pocket bulging with a handheld shortwave radio transceiver, Lawson?

Lawson: This is standard communication gear for my private security detail.

Arthur: On my estate's private encrypted frequency? The one only my personal inner security team knows?

Lawson's eyes narrowed. He made a quick step back toward the open balcony doors, but Marcus intercepted him, blocking the exit with his massive frame.

Marcus: Stand down, counselor. You're not running anywhere tonight.

Lawson: Arthur, listen to reason. Sterling offered millions. The family trust was underperforming anyway. We could have settled this quietly without a public scandal!

Arthur: You betrayed my family after fifteen years of trust. You altered my late wife’s estate documents, didn't you?

Lawson: You can't prove that!

Arthur: I can, and I will. Once forensic accountants dig through every single legal file you ever touched for my estate, you'll be spending the rest of your life in a federal penitentiary.

Victoria: Arthur, please! I was manipulated! Lawson and Richard coerced me! They told me you were going to leave me penniless!

Arthur: You chose to sell out my life's work for greed, Victoria. Take off the ring.
