The Whispers Trapped Behind Our Mansion Wall

Paramedics rushed into the narrow space with a folding stretcher, carefully lifting Sarah's frail body out into the bright light of the grand hallway.

Tyler knelt down beside the stretcher, hot tears spilling down his cheeks as he held his mother's cold, bony hand.

Tyler: Mom... you fought so hard. We never stopped looking for you.

Sarah: My brave boy... I heard your voice through the vent every single afternoon.

Lily slipped past the paramedics, gently resting her small cheek against Sarah's shoulder.

Lily: I told them you were here, Mommy. I tapped back every night.

Sarah: You saved my life, my sweet girl.

Two additional police officers escorted Victoria back into the foyer in heavy steel handcuffs, her designer dress smeared with white wall plaster dust.

Officer Davis: Victoria Hayes, you are under arrest for attempted murder, kidnapping, and aggravated false imprisonment.

Victoria: You have no proof! She locked herself in there! She was mentally unstable!

Detective Miller: We already found the padlocked exterior grate in the basement, Victoria. Along with the water rations you were slipping through the ventilation shaft.

Richard: You kept her barely alive just to keep the trust fund payments active in her name.

Detective Miller nodded grimly, holding up an evidence bag containing Victoria's financial ledger recovered from the study.

Detective Miller: If Sarah was declared dead, the estate trustee would have dissolved the family business and split the fortune between the children. She needed Sarah legally alive to siphon the money.

Richard: You are a monster. You will spend every remaining day of your miserable life behind bars.

Victoria: Richard, please! I did it for us! I did it to keep the company afloat!

Tyler: Take her away. We never want to see her face again.

The officers pushed Victoria out the front doors, the flashing red and blue lights reflecting off the grand mansion pillars.

Richard wrapped his arms around Tyler and Lily as the ambulance team prepped Sarah for transport to the emergency trauma center.

Richard: We're riding together. All of us.

Sarah: Together. No more walls between us.

As the ambulance doors closed and the sun broke through the tall morning trees, the dark shadows that had haunted the Hayes estate finally faded into the light.
