The Silent House In Dallas

When A Wealthy Stepmother Forced Her Daughter To Kneel

Mark pulled his dark sedan into the long driveway of his Dallas estate.

The sun was shining brightly across the grand white marble entrance of the house.

He had left work early because a strange feeling sat heavy in his chest.

His wife Victoria had promised to take good care of young Lily while he was away.

Mark stepped up to the front doors and unlocked the massive wooden entry.

A sudden harsh voice echoed sharply through the grand marble hallway inside.

Victoria: You missed a spot on the floor, keep scrubbing!

Mark stopped in his tracks as his heart began to beat wildly inside his chest.

He walked silently across the foyer toward the living room.

Lily: Please, my knees are bleeding on the tile!

Victoria: I do not care about your knees, finish the job!

Mark turned the corner and saw his young daughter kneeling on the hard floor.

Lily held a small scrub brush with both of her shaking hands.

Victoria stood over the little girl holding a cold glass of ice water.

Anger rushed through Mark like a fire as he stepped between them.

Mark: What do you think you are doing to my daughter?

Victoria jumped backward in shock and dropped her water glass onto the floor.

Victoria: Mark, you startled me so badly! Why are you home so early today?

Mark: Answer my question right now, Victoria!

Victoria: She spilled juice on the white marble, so she is cleaning it up.

Lily: Daddy, she made me scrub all morning without any breakfast!

Mark dropped to his knees on the cold marble floor next to his child.

He wrapped his strong arms around Lily and pulled her close to his chest.

Mark: I am so sorry, sweetheart. You will never have to do this again.

Victoria: Do not spoil her, Mark! She needs to learn basic respect!

Mark stood up slowly while keeping his daughter safely behind his back.

Mark: You are the one who needs a lesson in respect and basic humanity.

Victoria: I am your wife, and I run this house while you work!

Mark: You do not run anything in this home anymore, Victoria.

Victoria: You cannot speak to me like that after everything I have done!

Mark: I saw how you treated my child with my own eyes today.

Victoria: It was just a simple chore to teach her responsibility!

Mark: Forcing a seven-year-old child to scrub floors on her knees is cruelty.

Lily: She said you would lock me in the attic if I told you.

Mark felt a cold chill run down his spine at his daughter's words.

Mark: Is that what you told her when I was at the office?

Victoria: The child is lying to get me in trouble with you!

Mark: Lily has never lied to me a single day in her life.

Victoria: So you take her word over your own wife's word?

Mark: I take the truth over your wicked lies, Victoria.

Victoria wiped her hands on her purple dress and glared at Mark.

Victoria: I gave up my career in Houston to move into this place with you!

Mark: And I paid off your credit card debts and built a trust fund for you.

Victoria: That was your duty as my husband!

Mark: My first duty is protecting my motherless child from harm.

Lily gripped Mark's suit jacket tightly with her tiny fingers.

Lily: Daddy, please don't leave me alone with her again.

Mark: I will never leave your side again, my sweet girl.

Victoria: Fine, take her upstairs and let her ruin the house!

Mark: No, you are the one who is leaving this house right now.
