FABLE

The Fury In David's Eyes

When She Tried To Freeze Our Baby

David rushed forward with every ounce of strength he possessed, his arms wrapping securely around the crying baby to lift the child safely away from Margaret's grip. He held the infant tight against his chest, shielding the little one from the toxic atmosphere of the room while his eyes blazed with an intensity Eleanor had never seen before. Margaret stumbled back a half-step, her arrogant composure cracking slightly as she looked up into her son's furious face. Eleanor leaned against the nursery wall for support, her breath coming in ragged, uneven gasps as she wiped the remaining tears from her hot cheeks. The luxury nursery suddenly felt less like a sanctuary and more like a battlefield where years of hidden resentment had finally broken loose into the open. David tightened his hold on the baby, his knuckles turning white against the soft fabric of the infant's blanket.

David: Give me my child right now!

Margaret: Lower your tone with me, David. I was only trying to fix the mess you two have made of raising this child.

David: Fix a mess? By pouring ice water on an infant? Have you completely lost your mind?!

Margaret: She was crying endlessly! Someone had to teach her some discipline before she ruins this entire family's legacy.

Eleanor: She's a baby, Margaret! She's months old! You didn't want to teach her discipline, you wanted to hurt her to get to me!

Margaret scoffed, crossing her arms inside her heavy dark coat as if she were standing in a courtroom rather than a nursery. Her arrogant chin tilted upward defiantly, refusing to show a single ounce of genuine remorse for what she had just done. David gently rocked the quietening baby in his arms, whispering soft reassurances against the child's forehead before turning his blazing gaze back to his mother. The air in the room grew suffocatingly heavy, every second stretching out like a tight rubber band ready to snap. Eleanor stepped closer to her husband, her hand resting lightly on his arm to steady her own racing heartbeat. She knew Margaret was used to controlling every aspect of their lives through manipulation, wealth, and intimidation. But this went far beyond ordinary family drama or passive-aggressive insults over holiday dinner tables. This was a direct, malicious assault on an innocent child inside the very walls they were supposed to be safe within. David's jaw clenched so tightly a muscle twitched violently near his cheekbone as he weighed his next words.

David: You are finished here, mother. Pack your things and get out of this house before I call the authorities myself.

Margaret: You wouldn't dare! Without my financial backing and this estate, you two would be living on the streets within a month!

David: Try me. Test my patience one more time, and see what I am willing to do to protect my family.

Margaret glared at both of them with pure venom, her lips pressing into a thin, bitter line as she calculated her next manipulative move. She clearly believed her status and money made her completely untouchable, shielding her from the consequences of her own cruelty. Eleanor watched Margaret's eyes dart toward the door, searching for a way to turn the situation back around in her favor. But David didn't flinch, standing like a solid wall of protection between his mother and his wife. The silence that followed was broken only by the faint, comforting sounds of the baby breathing softly against David's chest. Yet, Eleanor could feel deep down that Margaret would never let this go quietly without a vicious retaliation. What kind of final trap was Margaret planning as she backed slowly toward the hallway doorway?
