Two uniform police officers entered the home through the front door, moving swiftly into the living room.
Officer Smith: Are you Sarah Miller, the woman who placed the emergency phone call ten minutes ago?
Sarah: Yes officer, I am the rightful legal owner of this home and property.
Sarah: That woman right there just assaulted my minor daughter and tried to flee the house.
Officer Smith moved quickly across the room and placed Brenda in heavy steel handcuffs without resistance.
Brenda: You can't do this to me! I am the mistress of this house!
Officer Smith: You have the right to remain silent, ma'am, so please save your excuses for the judge.
The guests began clapping softly as the officers escorted the crying stepmother out the front door.
Lily came walking down the grand staircase, her face now completely clean and washed of frosting.
She ran straight over to her mother, wrapping both arms around Sarah's waist with immense relief.
Lily: Is she really gone forever now, Mommy?
Sarah: She is gone for good, baby girl, and nobody will ever treat you badly again.
Sarah looked at the ruined birthday cake sitting on the long wooden dining room table.
She smiled brightly at her daughter, wiping a remaining tiny spot of frosting off Lily's cute nose.
Sarah: How about we go grab the biggest ice cream sundae in town to celebrate instead?
Lily: That sounds like the best birthday present ever, Mommy!
The visiting parents gathered around Sarah, offering their full support and continuous help for the future.
Sarah took Lily's warm little hand into her own as they walked together toward a bright future.
