David did not hesitate for even a single second after hearing his mother's desperate cry.
He pushed past Sarah with urgency and reached his arms deep into the dark opening.
His fingers locked around his mother's cold, frail hands and pulled her toward the light.
Evelyn was shaking uncontrollably as her son carefully lifted her onto the solid ground.
David: Mom, are you okay? How long have you been down in this dark place?
Evelyn: David... Oh thank God, you finally came for me!
The frail old woman held onto her son's shirt while tears rolled down her lined cheeks.
Maya backed away slowly toward the greenhouse door, her eyes round with confusion and fear.
Sarah stood nearby with a hardened expression, her arms crossed tightly over her chest.
David turned around slowly to face his wife, his throat tight with overwhelming anger.
David: How could you do this to my mother?!
Sarah: You don't know the whole story, David! You have to let me explain!
David: Explain what?! You trapped an old woman under the floor like an animal!
Sarah: She was going to destroy our family! She was going to take everything from us!
Evelyn: She lied to you, David! She wanted the family inheritance for herself!
The air in the sunlit greenhouse felt heavy as the terrible truth began to unfold.
David helped his mother sit down on a wooden bench away from the open hole.
He stepped closer to Sarah, his chest heaving as he confronted his wife of twelve years.
David: My mother was missing for three days, Sarah! You said she went on vacation!
Sarah: She came here to force us out of the house with her legal team!
Sarah: She hired a lawyer to revoke the trust fund you set up for Maya!
Evelyn: That is a complete lie! I came to protect my granddaughter from her greed!
David looked back and forth between his crying mother and his rigid wife.
The peaceful home he had built over a decade was crumbling around him in moments.
He looked down at the dark cellar entrance and then back at Sarah's cold eyes.
David: I am calling the police right now, Sarah.
Sarah: If you call them, you will lose this house and your entire life's work!
David: I don't care about the house anymore! You crossed a line that can never be fixed!
Sarah stepped backward toward the door, realizing that her control was completely slipping away.
Maya started crying softly near the entrance, holding her father's arm with both hands.
