The security monitor glowed brightly against the polished walls of the foyer.
Richard clicked the first document open, his eyes scanning down the rows of numbers.
Richard: Bank transfer requests. Off-shore routing numbers in the Cayman Islands.
Margarethe: Every wealthy family uses offshore accounts, Richard! It saves on taxes!
Richard: Lily's mother established this trust before she died of cancer three years ago.
His voice dropped to a low, dangerous whisper that silenced the entire hall.
Richard: Not a single dollar was supposed to be touched until Lily turned twenty-five.
Margarethe: We needed cash flow! The boutique chain in Dallas was bleeding money!
Richard: You told me your boutiques were thriving on Fifth Avenue and in Highland Park.
Margarethe: Markets fluctuate! You know how retail works!
Richard: You lied to me about your net worth before we signed our marriage license.
Margarethe: I was trying to save my family name!
Richard: By stealing fourteen million dollars from a motherless ten-year-old girl?
Lily gasped softly, looking between her father and the screen.
Lily: Daddy... did she take Mom's college money?
Richard: She tried to, sweetheart. But she didn't finish the transfer yet.
He scrolled down to the bottom of the PDF agreement, pointing at the signature line.
Richard: What is this signature right here?
Margarethe swallowed hard, shifting her weight from one copper high heel to the other.
Margarethe: That is... your authorized signature.
Richard: I have never seen this paper in my life.
Margarethe: You signed a stack of documents during the charity gala last month!
Richard: I signed zoning permits for the new children's wing at the hospital.
Margarethe: You must have signed this by mistake!
Richard: This is a forged digital signature. The timestamp is two in the morning on a Tuesday.
He tapped the screen with his index finger, turning to face her directly.
Richard: I was in London closing the energy merger on that date. My passport proves it.
Margarethe: Richard, please... we are husband and wife. We share everything!
Richard: We share nothing built on fraud and violence.
Margarethe: I built a life with you! I took care of this giant house!
Richard: You hired maids, threw expensive parties with my credit cards, and terrorized my daughter.
Lily: She locked my room from the outside when you went on business trips, Daddy.
Richard stiffened, his eyes widening in pure horror.
Richard: What did you just say, Lily?
Lily: Every time you went to New York or London, she locked the outside hallway latch.
Margarethe: That was for her safety! We had contractors in the west wing!
Lily: She left me in the dark until morning. She said if I knocked, she wouldn't give me breakfast.
Richard's breathing turned ragged as a wave of fury rushed through him.
Richard: You locked my child in a room?
Margarethe: She is exaggerating! She has an overactive imagination!
Richard: Marcus, come over here.
The second security guard stepped forward from the hallway alcove, removing his hat.
Officer Marcus: Yes, Mr. Sterling?
Richard: Did you know about this?
Officer Marcus: Sir, she told us you ordered a strict night-time protocol for the young miss.
Richard: You took orders from her to lock my child away?
Officer Marcus: She threatened to have us fired and blacklisted from every security firm in the state, sir.
Margarethe glared at the guard with pure venom in her eyes.
Margarethe: You traitor! You cowardly little hireling!
Richard: Shut up, Margarethe!
Richard's roar shook the walls of the grand foyer, freezing everyone in the room.
Richard: You do not speak to anyone in this house ever again.
