Two uniform Dallas police officers burst through the classroom door, their heavy boots clattering against the floor. Behind them followed the school principal and a district child protective services officer.

Brenda: Officer, this is a private family matter! My ex-husband is trying to frame me to win our child custody battle!
Officer Davis: Drop the scissors on the table right now, ma'am! Do not make us repeat ourselves!
Brenda’s hands trembled violently as she slowly set the heavy craft scissors down on a student desk. Officer Davis stepped forward, grabbed Brenda’s arm, pulled it behind her back, and clicked a pair of steel handcuffs around her wrist.

Marcus: Officer, I am Marcus Vance, top partner at Vance & Associates. This video footage clearly shows the suspect forcibly restraining and assaulting my daughter with a weapon on school grounds. I am filing charges for child endangerment, assault, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Officer Davis: We have the footage secured from the witness, Mr. Vance. Ma'am, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.
Brenda: Marcus! You can't do this to me! I have a right to my daughter! I am her mother!
As the officers led Brenda out of the room in handcuffs, the students and staff in the hallway watched in utter silence. Brenda shouted and cursed as she was escorted down the hall, her voice fading into the distance as she was placed into the back of a police cruiser.
Child Protective Officer: Mr. Vance, given the severe nature of this incident and the immediate threat to the child's physical safety, we are granting an emergency temporary protective order. Lily is cleared to leave under your exclusive custody immediately.
Marcus: Thank you. My legal team is already filing the permanent emergency injunction with the family court right now.
Marcus bent down once again, lifting Lily into his arms. He held her close, feeling her quiet, rhythmic breathing against his chest as her tears finally began to dry.
