Lily: Daddy... is Mom ever going to come back and do that again?
Marcus: Never, my sweet girl. Never again. Nobody is ever going to hurt you or scare you again. I promise you on my life.
Lily: But my hair... it looks so ugly now. It's all short and messy...
Marcus: You are the most beautiful girl in the entire world, no matter what your hair looks like. And guess what? We are going to go to the best salon in the city, and they are going to make you look like a princess.
Lily wiped her nose with the back of her sleeve, a small, tentative smile finally appearing on her face through her dried tears.
Lily: Can we get ice cream after the salon?
Marcus: We can get all the ice cream you want, sweetheart. Anything you want.

The judge, having reviewed the video evidence from the school alongside records of Brenda’s hidden gambling debts and erratic behavior, issued a decisive ruling. Marcus was awarded full legal and physical custody of Lily with zero visitation rights granted to Brenda without court-monitored psychological evaluations. Outside the courthouse on a warm afternoon, the sun shone brightly over the grand marble steps. Marcus walked out holding Lily’s hand. She wore a stylish, modern bob haircut that highlighted her bright eyes and cheerful smile, her auburn hair healthy and shining in the sunlight.
Marcus: Look at you, kiddo. You look like a million bucks.
Lily: I feel happy, Daddy. I feel like we're finally safe.
