The Chain On The Lawn

A Stepmother Chained My Toddler On The Front Lawn

Sarah: GET YOUR HANDS OFF HER RIGHT NOW!

Victoria: Step back, Sarah! You are a paid employee in this house, not her parent! Do not test me!

Sarah: You have a child chained up like an animal in broad daylight! Have you completely lost your mind?!

Victoria: She was misbehaving indoors! She knocked over my mother’s antique crystal vase in the parlor! She needs to learn discipline and respect, and since her father spoils her rotten, I am handling it!

Sarah didn't waste another second arguing. She dropped to her knees right in front of the sobbing toddler, ignoring Victoria's sharp gasp of outrage. The iron chain felt burning hot and heavy under the blazing Texas sun, pressing cruelly against Lily’s small, delicate chest. Sarah’s hands trembled, but her fingers worked fast, instantly unclipping the heavy metal fastener from the child's harness.

Lily: Sarah! Sarah, save me! Grandma bad!

Sarah: Shh, baby, I've got you. I’ve got you, sweetheart. You're safe now, I promise.

Victoria: How dare you touch that clip! Put her down immediately, or I will fire you on the spot and make sure you never work in this town again!

Sarah: Go ahead and fire me, Victoria! See if I care! You belong in a cage for doing this to a toddler!

Sarah scooped Lily up into her arms, wrapping her tightly against her chest. The little girl buried her wet face into Sarah’s shoulder, her tiny body trembling with violent sobs. Sarah backed away slowly, her eyes locked on Victoria, who was practically shaking with fury. Victoria stepped forward, raising her hand as if she meant to drag the child right back out of Sarah’s arms.

Victoria: You don't know your place! Mark hired you to clean the floors, not to question how I run this family! Hand her over right now!

Sarah: Touch her again and see what happens! She is terrified of you!

Victoria: She is my stepdaughter! The Vance family name means something in this city, and I will not let a low-class maid ruin my home or disrespect my authority!

Sarah: You call this authority? This is pure cruelty! Look at her skin, Victoria! She has red marks all over her shoulders from this metal chain!

Victoria: She needed to be taught obedience! A few red marks will teach her not to ruin expensive things in my living room!

Sarah: She is three years old! She didn't break your vase on purpose, she’s just a baby!

Victoria: I don't care! Mark left me in charge of this household while he was at his corporate office, and what I say goes! Hand her back to me this second!

Sarah: Not a chance in hell. You’ll have to go through me first.
