Richard: Honey, I’m home early! The board meeting wrapped up before noon, so I brought your favorite orchids—
The heavy mahogany door clicked shut, the echo bouncing off the tall entryway ceiling of the estate. Richard pulled off his designer leather gloves, holding a lush arrangement of purple orchids in his left hand. The silence of the hallway was instantly shattered by a harsh, venomous voice echoing directly from the kitchen.
Victoria: You’re a pathetic excuse for a daughter! Keep crying, see if those tears wipe the dirt off my countertops!
Maya: I’M TRYING!
Victoria: You’re not trying hard enough! Look at you, slaving away like a maid because you’re completely useless at everything else! If you don’t like it, pack your baby’s bags and get out!
Richard froze at the entrance of the kitchen foyer. The sight before him turned his blood to ice. His young daughter, pale and trembling, was cowering over a sink filled with dirty soapy water, a tiny infant strapped to her chest. Standing directly over her was his wife of three years, Victoria, her hand raised, her face twisted in rage.
The bouquet of expensive flowers slipped effortlessly from Richard’s fingers, crashing onto the hardwood floor with a soft thud. Petals scattered across the polished oak as his jaw tightened, his expression shifting instantly from cheerful warmth to absolute, blinding rage.
Richard: VICTORIA! WHAT IS THIS?!
Victoria: R-Richard?! You’re home early... I didn't hear your car in the driveway!
Richard: Answer me right now! What in God's name are you doing to my daughter?!
Maya: Dad... oh God, Dad, please help me...
Victoria: Darling, wait, it’s not what it looks like! I was just... I was just teaching her some responsibility! She’s been sitting around all day doing nothing while you work!
Richard: Teaching her responsibility?! You were screaming at her like an animal! She’s holding a three-month-old baby!
Victoria: Richard, calm down, you’re overreacting! You don’t see what she does when you’re at the office! She treats this mansion like a hotel!
Richard: GET AWAY FROM MY DAUGHTER! CALL 911 NOW!
Victoria: Call 911?! Are you insane?! For what?! I didn't touch her!
Richard: I said get away from her right now before I lay my hands on you! Maya, step behind me. Give me the baby, sweetheart. Step behind your father right now.
Maya sobbed, stepping around the counter while holding her baby tightly. Richard grabbed his daughter’s shivering shoulder, placing his broad frame squarely between Victoria and Maya. Victoria took two steps back, her cheeks turning bright red as she realized her control over the house had just shattered in a single second.
