Maid: Sir? Please, what are you doing? You're going to ruin your expensive suit on this floor!
Arthur: Take off the glove... please, just let me see your arm!
Maid: Sir, I'm just a cleaning lady. I have work to finish before the night crew arrives.
Arthur: I am begging you. Please pull back the cuff!
Arthur's hands shook violently as he gently reached out, his fingertips brushing against the stiff leather of her glove. The legal team exchanged baffled glances, while the security guards moved closer, completely unsure of how to intervene.
Vice President: Mr. Vance, is everything alright? Should we call medical personnel?
Arthur: Everyone shut up! Don't come near us!
Arthur slowly tugged the edge of the dark leather glove downward, pulling it back inch by inch. The maid let out a quiet, hesitant gasp, trying gently to pull her hand back, but Arthur held on with desperate care.
As the leather slid down her pale skin, a distinct, deeply indented H-shaped burn scar came into full view on her inner forearm. The thick white tissue stood out sharply against her weathered skin, a permanent mark left by a terrifying memory from decades past.
Arthur: No... oh God, no...
Maid: Sir, please don't look at it. It's an old, ugly scar from a terrible fire many years ago.
Arthur: I know what this scar is...
Maid: How could you possibly know about my scar?
Arthur: Look at me... please look closely at my face!
The maid paused, her wrinkled eyes searching Arthur's face. Tears were now streaming freely down his cheeks, ruining his rigid corporate composure. He pressed his lips against the scarred tissue of her forearm, weeping openly in the middle of the crowded hallway.
Maid: Why are you crying over an old cleaning woman?
Arthur: You got these scars saving me from that burning estate... Mom!
Maid: What... what did you just call me?
Arthur: It's me! It's Artie! Your little boy!
Maid: Artie? My little Artie died in the hospital after the fire... his father told me he was gone!
Arthur: He lied to you! He stole me away and hid the truth! I've been looking for you for twenty years!
