Clara took the roses from Ethan's hands and held them gently against her chest as they walked together.
They sat down on a quiet wooden bench beneath a massive oak tree, away from the other park visitors.
Clara: My father passed away last month, Ethan. He left behind a complex family will and trust fund.
Ethan: Did he leave everything to your stepmother, like everyone in town expected him to do?
Clara: No. My stepmother hid the original legal papers from me so she could claim the entire mansion.
Ethan felt anger rising inside his chest as he listened to the cruel truth behind Clara's painful exile.
Ethan: That is illegal, Clara. She cannot just hide official court records and steal your rightful inheritance.
Clara: She hired a powerful divorce lawyer and corporate attorneys to lock me out of the main estate.
Ethan: My uncle is one of the top probate attorneys in the state. He can review those papers.
Clara reached into her small purse and pulled out a folded piece of official paper with official stamps.
Clara: I managed to secure a copy of the original life insurance policy and land deed yesterday morning.
Ethan opened the document carefully and scanned the legal terms written across the heavy white paper pages.
His eyes widened as he noticed his own late father's signature listed as a co-trustee on the property deed.
Ethan: Clara, your father didn't just leave you the house. He made my family co-guardians of the fund.
Clara: What does that mean for us legally right now, Ethan?
Ethan: It means your stepmother had no legal right to kick you out or control the family trust.
Ethan: It also means we can freeze the bank accounts before she sells off the ancestral family home.
Clara let out a shaky breath, placing her hand over Ethan's warm fingers as hope returned to her heart.
Clara: I was so afraid to face her alone, Ethan. She threatened me with a lawsuit last week.
Ethan: You are not alone anymore. We are going to that estate lawyer's office together right now.
They stood up from the bench, holding hands tightly as they walked back toward Ethan's parked car.
